So many prizes!

With only 26 submissions of raffle numbers, I decided to consolidate some of the prizes and replace others with cash. I've been thwarted in my attempts to get to Vanadiel to announce all this to the LS, but that might've not worked so well anyway, since it'd be hard to find everyone at once. Indeed, I'm finding it daunting to figure out how to mail everthing in a timely fashion, so bear with me while I get that sorted out. Some of you will be contacted directly about mailing arrangements.

Well, I have been ordered home. I cannot ignore the call of Family and Kingdom in favor of an adventurous life, no matter how appealing that may be. Words can't adequately capture how I've enjoyed the relationships and adventures I've had in Vanadiel. I will, of course, miss you all!

There will be time for final goodbyes -- I have a few weeks to clean out my moghouse and pack up. That'll take a little while.

I've asked my assistants to sell off the various things they've been holding onto, though we'll keep some of the more useful items to give to our friends as gifts.

I don't like to dwell on the sad partings so I've decided to add a little festivity and have a fun raffle sort of thingy. Among the top prizes will be:

I will use some bizarre, haphazard and arcane method (which will probably never be revealed) to determine the winner from among the entries. Then I'll mogmail prizes to their new owners, and probably announce them here!

PLEASE: True adventurers only -- NO assistants or mules, etc. I reserve the right to disqualify entries that I consider inappropriate, cuz, well, it's my stuff. As a rough guideline, a character should have something at level 10 to be considered a legitimate entry.

I'll halt the entries at some random time at least 3 days from now.

Last week I declared the end of my boatfishing stint. Not to say I won't go back there, but if I do, it'll not be for skill. It's nice to know that I can catch as many Bhefhel Marlin and Silver Sharks as I care to, but I'm ready for something different.

I'm now exploring the prospects of Qufim Island. I picked a nice time to start: new moon brought in a bunch of good catches, including a stack of black sole, in a short time period. I investigated the Kraken, and learned that it's a Decent Challenge for me, so I'll give it some space. There are plenty of places along the cliffs.

There's a nice balance to the approach for this spot -- use a shrimp lure to catch Tiger Cod (as well as Black Sole and Nosteau Herring), then slice the cod (6 slices per fish!) to use as bait for the Three-eyed Fish and Giant Squid. If I hang onto my shrimp lure, things should work out pretty nicely.

However, first quarter moon isn't treating me so well, spitting up only rusty leggings and a few unpleasant monsters that I really don't care to deal with. Sneak is not sticking at all, and so I rarely get more than 2 casts in before I have to renew it. All of this would be tolerable if the bite rate weren't so dismal. So I've traded in the waiting for boats and contending with the Sea Horror (and bots) for these other nuisances. Hopefuly the first experience turns out to be more typical than the latest.

so, S. Gustaberg sucked. Then, S. Qufim sucked. Then we decided to give it a rest and try Rabao, hoping that the sandfish would help. But about 9 dozen carp and 3 dozen sandfish later, only .1 in skill. Gallijeux pays crap for carp.

So I'm back in S. Gustaberg again. Mainly just to fill out a couple stacks so that Sakanaya stops hounding me about slowing down his sales. Not going so well on that front, but at least the company is good...

Getting kinda worn out by this intensive fishing experimentation.
Sakanaya complains that he has incomplete stacks of 14 different fish-related products in his moghouse, and wonders when he can expect to finish them.
S. Gustaberg was not at all productive; sure, a bunch of jellyfish and a few ogre eels, but hardly worth the time.

Maybe it's time for woodworking... but my cash is pretty depleted right now.

Nose to the grindstone, or something. Dividing my time between archery practice in Qufim and fishing the little lake in La Theine. I've been away from home for so long, I feel like quite the displaced person. I suppose it's paying off, but I no longer see my friends. With the exception of Quinton, who's also been renting a nearby room in Jeuno. We tried our wormkilling duo thing again with very satisfying results.

The frog lure has been a tremendous tool. I must've filled my basket 5 times with Giant Catfish, Dark Bass and Red Terrapins by now, and that little froggie's as good as new. In spite of the haul, the time passes more slowly without the fishing companion I've grown accustomed to. But I should know better by now...

I gave Thubo Parohren the Giant Catfish needed to pass my fishing test for Novice. She tells me, "if ya got the rocks, ya might wanna try ferrry fising." I have the rocks, but I don't have the gil -- too many broken Composite Fishing Rods! Degong recommends trying to catch Nosteau Herring using balls of Sardine Paste. And Panja-Nanja thinks I should dig up some Peeled Lobsters and night-fish for Ogre Eels on the southern coastline. I'm still inclined to head back to my little lake in La Theine.

I got out and did some running around, for the first time in awhile. It started a few days ago, when I was provoked into heading over to Altepa to see the desert and catch up with Mecredi and Chesh. I never got there, but changed plans in the mines of Bastok, deciding to take a boat ride over to Mhaura to chase down leeches. This was a bit tedious, but rewarding in the end. However, it only started me on yet another jaunt to see the weather around the world. It's nice to get out once in awhile, and I think I'll wander a bit. Of course, this is a lot easier now that I have passed the garden over to Sakanaya, who seemed eager for more work...

oh, it's been a flurry of activity lately.
My arms are sore from archery practice, and so I haven't felt much like writing. I also managed to get in a little ocean fishing, and was rewarded with yet more Rusty Leggings, some kelp, and a few Rusty Buckets. Oh, and 2 Ogre Eels. I gather you can't eat 'em, but they're instead used in Venom dust.
The pipira have been fussy as ever.

I broke away to earn some XP and made it to RDM25. Fortunately, moat carp have been selling nearly as fast as I can catch them. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I could buy 2 new spells (Invisibility and Sleep). If only I could use these to improve my fishing success!

Got a chance to break away and immediately took advantage of the 74g chocobo rental to run up for a workout in Qufim. It wasn't long before I was invited to a party by Pinball, with whom I'd never worked. When I joined, though, he was saying nice things about me! "...and I KNOW bothrops is the shit..." Turns out that he had heard about me from Alurin, one of our friends from an adventure in Buburimu.
It's nice to intersect with friends from the past...
