Party layout update:

Cydori - NIN, Demandred - WHM, Hakhi - RNG, Klaital - DNC, Negata - BLM

And then either Morlock (WAR) or Tharpy (SCH).

Going back to West Altepa to take on beetles.

Once again, I'm sorry for the confusion regarding last night's xp. Next time I'll make sure to send messages and get replies. Nonetheless, we still had a productive session.

Next week, we'll be doing pretty much the same thing again, except Dem may be bringing a different job and we may have Morlock instead of Tharpy. This should be the last week for me on NIN.

Is it wrong that the announcement that the level cap increase is only to 85 is making me feel relieved, since that means that I can now be at most 10 levels behind, not 15? ^_^;

It does make me wonder if they're planning to spread it across five updates rather than three, like most of us were assuming based on the schedule charts from February.
Negata > Man, we're missing out on two jumps now :( (10/08/26 08:45)

In my slow crawl towards breaking the level 75 cap, I managed to pick up merit #2 last night. Just 9k more to go!

Admittedly, I hadn't logged on at all since Tuesday, and that was Dynamis day, so it'd been a week since I'd actually had a chance to go out and get merit points. This kind of schedule explains why I am where I am. ^^;
Cealia > what dynamis shell are you on? mine recently died and turned into a social. so i need a new one. (10/08/24 13:45)
Cydori > Howitzer. Uncertain if they're open at the moment. (10/08/24 14:14)
Cealia > what times do they do dyna? (10/08/25 23:10)
Cydori > 5:30PM Mountain on Tuesdays, and I think 2:00PM or 2:30 PM Mountain on Saturdays. (10/08/26 09:01)
Cealia > ah, i need later times. I'm at work at 5:30 and usually not around that late on saturdays.. my old dyna did it at 10 pm mountain. (10/08/26 13:43)
Cydori > Yeah, I figured that might not work because of the time zone differences. Sorry. I don't know of any Pacific-based groups, which would probably work much better for you. (10/08/26 14:57)

Finally, I will be available for xp again. I am going to this shopping event thing with my mom beforehand, so I may be a bit late, but I'll log out in an appropriate spot the night before.

I believe our plan is still to sync to Negata's BLM40, which means that the best spot is probably beetles in West Altepa, unless you guys know of another one you'd rather try. Meeting time is Thursday @9PM Eastern/8PM Central/6PM Pacific. I want to say Negata's time zone 14 hours ahead of US Eastern time, so that'd be 11AM Friday morning there. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Edit: I am wrong; currently we're GMT-4 due to Daylight Savings Time, so that is a 12-hour difference. So that's 9AM Friday. I think that since I've written it down now, I'll actually remember. ^^;

Current party layout is thus:
Cydori - NIN, Demandred - ???, Hakhi - RNG or SCH, Klaital - DNC?, Morlock - WAR (if available), Negata - BLM (sync target)

We'll need someone to mainheal and someone to pull. I'd hazard a guess that either Hakhi's RNG or Morlock's WAR (with a ranged weapon) would fill the latter role.

If all goes well, in a couple of sessions I'll have NIN at 50 and will be swapping over to WHM, which means we'll have a healer but need a tank. We can work out specifics when we get there, but if someone has a tank job they want to work on, especially a 40-ish one, it's a good opportunity.
Negata > I'm GMT+8, which puts me at 12 hours ahead of US eastern time, I think. I need to level NIN so unless someone else wants to tank, that's covered. (10/08/23 18:24)
Morlock > If we're going L40, I'd like to pull my WAR (40) out so as to start covering ground. (10/08/23 20:41)
Morlock > This, of course, assumes that I am even available ;) (10/08/23 20:42)
Hakhi > RNG is fine and I can pull. or I can pull out SCH and heal if that's preferred depending on Dem & Klai's jobs. (10/08/24 15:13)
Cydori > Looking at some of the older entries, Klai expressed a preference for DNC. I'll see if that's still true, and try to catch Dem tonight to ask about jobs as well. (10/08/25 08:51)

The other thing that I have been doing besides Campaigning for merits is working on quests that required going into formerly level-capped CoP areas. In the past, these quests would have required forming a group, and I didn't think the rewards were enough to spend other people's time to acquire. If I'm going to get a group together, I want it to be for something that has a good benefit to the whole group, like xp or missions. Not "let's run all over the Acqueducts for 3000 gil." (That having been said, I still have a couple of long-standing ToAU quests with so-so rewards that will require a group to finish.)

So I've now finished up X Marks the Spot, Knocking on Forbidden Doors (the mannequin posing quest), and Confessions of a Bellmaker. I'm down to the NM fight on The Search for Goldmane, having finished the bit where you have to get a key and CS in Riverne #A01. I also knocked out the one where you run all over Pso'Xja and fight dolls and get bracelets. It was never level-capped, but it took me a while to find a good set of directions and confirmation that I could, in fact, solo the fights.

I've been wrapping up non-CoP quests as well. After having it open for probably five and a half years, I bought a bunch of Northern Furs and closed out Black Market. I was with some folks and we fought the NM in the Temple of Ugh for the painting quest. (Then I found out there's a second part and I'll have to do it again, but I think I can solo it.) Checking quests off my list satisfies my OCD quite nicely. ;p

There are some that I know I'll never finish, like the Lu Shang's quest or the avatars on steroids series of fights. But I find questing to be a nice break from Campaigning or farming (not that I'm doing those all that much, but I stil like some variety). And I've not even touched the fairly massive list of Abyssea quests, though I'm saving stones in case I end up getting invited to a party. Are people expected to have any of the quests done before partying?
Negata > No quests are required for standard Abyssea parties. (10/08/22 00:52)
Cydori > Excellent. Do they expect you to have any of the Veridical Conflux thingies activated? (10/08/22 12:28)
Elizara > Nope, tho they are helpful. My suggestion; wait until after a party when you got buckets of time to go look for them (and bring a guide if you can). IMO that's the best way to get confluxes. (10/08/22 19:21)
Cydori > I dislike this not starting out with maps thing, although a good party ought to get me all the cruor I need. In theory, one should know the lay of the land from going through the non-Abyssea versions, but this is me we're talking about, so. ;p (10/08/22 21:43)
Negata > Yeah, a good idea would be to take time to get all the confluxes before you go into a party. It took me about half an hour each zone, but you could probably do it much quicker if you tried. Important ones are near the Mandy camp in Tahrongi and the frog camp in La Thiene. (10/08/23 00:34)
Cydori > Okay, so no *specific* quests are required, but doing some to get cruor for conflux activation could be helpful. (10/08/23 07:42)
Negata > aw crap yeah, forgot about Cruor requirement for confluxes. They should be a high priority, but you'll get enough in your first party to cover maps/confluxes, most likely. (10/08/23 08:05)

I feel like writing journal entries lately. I've been writing more in my LJ as well.

One upside to the level cap increase is that gear has gotten cheap, so I've finally been able to pick up a bunch of things I probably should have had long ago. Except, you know, no money. I'm sure people would still be horrified at some of the things I don't have, but I'm content with my setup and think it's fairly respectable at this point.

There doesn't seem to be too much more I'd be needing to go from 75-80. There's the Perle set, and that's about it. Yeah, yeah, Thew Bomblet, but that's only happening if someone gifts me with a large amount of gil or I quit my job and ditch my husband so I can spend more time farming or joining an NM-fighting group in Abyssea. ;p There'll probably be something in the next update to override it and I can pick one up for cheap then.

Negative progress on the great level cap breaking, as we went to Dynamis-Windurst last night and I died a few times. Death is to be expected in Dynamis, so I'm not upset or anything. At this point I'm swapping over to getting merits rather than trying to recap my buffer. Being 2k down is not going to matter so much if I'm out levelling, but having to regain it before I go back to merits is just going to slow me down. I probably should have been doing it this way all along.

Honestly, though, I had fun with everyone. An evening spent with friends is better than an evening spent stressing over progress. Plus, my work schedule is such that I can't make Dynamis quite as often as I used to, so I like having the chance to go. I think I won't be making it quite as much in future weeks since work's not going to be letting up like I was hoping and I really want to get back to the Thursday night xp group. Getting jobs to 50 should probably take lower priority than levelling DRG, but again, it's relaxing and I enjoy spending the time with people. Besides, if I don't schedule time to make myself xp, you see how good I am at doing it. ^_^;
Elizara > Hehe. If I catch you later and I got a good aby party going, I meant it; I'll ask you then drag you into it if you got the time, drg wise. I don't want to drag you into one of those things unwillingly ^^; (10/08/18 10:33)
Cydori > If I have the time, dragging will not be necessary. I'll be happy to go! (10/08/18 10:52)

Reminder: I won't be available for xp this week due to having friends from out-of-town visiting.

*****

The announcement of the September version update has spurred me to at least try and get the first level cap broken so that I'm not still stuck at 75 when they raise it to 85 or 90 or whatever they're raising it to. Now, here's the thing. I hadn't actually done any xp'ing/meriting on DRG in a long time. It wasn't really that noticeable when the level cap was still at 75, because, hey, there's no real way to tell what a person's done, merit-wise, just by looking at them. It was, however, very noticeable once the level cap went up. And while I've been incredibly busy with work or trying to not strain my eye and therefore not playing all that much, I finally got tired of looking at everyone else who'd broken the cap and knowing I hadn't done it yet.

I've now gotten Merit #1 and am 1.5k away from Merit #2. I have done this primarily through Campaigning, which is far less efficient than a merit party, but doesn't require me to sit around and hope that someone invites me. I am too shy, really, to be proactive and make my own merit party out of complete strangers, and generally the people that I do know tend to frequently be busy and have plans of their own that I'd rather not interrupt.

It helped that the humeboy was out of town last weekend and I had a good deal of extra playing time, although I'm already starting to feel a little burnt out. ^^; At least I've figured out how I can make Campaign less frustrating for me. Basically, I call up the map to see what areas are having battles, then do a search to see how many people are in the area. If there's an area with a battle and a decent amount of people, then that's where I'll go. It's not a foolproof method, as sometimes I arrive right as the battle ends, but it works pretty well a lot of the time. The only zone I have to be careful in in East Ronfaure[S] since there are usually people xp'ing on the colibri, so having a lot of people in zone does not automatically mean they're Campaigning.

Again, this may not be the most efficient option for getting xp, but it means I'm not sitting around a lot in a single zone waiting for a fight to start, or sitting around a lot waiting for weakness to wear while hoping that I'm not about to get back on some mob's hate list and killed again before I have the MP to put Reraise back up. I really, *really* wish they made weakness last for about a minute in Campaign. I know there's the one NPC Galka WHM who has the special ability to help with that, but seriously, this is something where you're going to get killed a lot, but dying over and over simply because you can't do anything for five minutes is ridiculous. Same thing for Beseiged.

...hell, that was a Campaign rant. I swore I wasn't going to do those anymore. But the thing is, my system has so far prevented that from happening, so I'd consider that a plus!

I will change my strategy depending on the conditions and where in the week we are. I was camping Beaucedine[S] on Saturday because it was pretty much a nonstop set of fights, and the xp did turn out better. Plus there were folks out there, so I had people to chat with and to watch my back. I am horrible at the watching of others' backs. I tend to forget that my /WHM can be used for the benefit of people other than me. ^^; Hopefully I'll get back in practice at some point when I'm levelling WHM again.

So, yeah, at some point I'll get the last two merits and break the cap, and then maybe I can get into a couple of Abyssea parties, which I have heard are pretty amazing. I may have to ask for a noob's guide to Abyssea or something, as I have no idea what's expected there. And if that doesn't pan out (particularly given how little I log in outside of scheduled activities, and sometimes not even then), I can always keep up with the Campaigning when I can squeeze it in.

Also at some point I may get back into planning missions and quests and such, but right now I'm still pretty busy and stressed from work and I'd really like to get the level cap out of the way first. Maybe September, though I'm not going to make any promises or firm commitments yet.
Negata > You can do abyssea parties even without G6. You'll also have about 8 merits to spare afterwards! Honestly it's far more productive than campaign, even considering the time investment. (For me, 110k seems to take 4 hours min) (10/08/17 18:16)
Cydori > True. I just feel that if I'm going to be putting points towards something, I'd rather be putting them towards xp than merits, even if the merits will unlock xp (and who knows, it's possible future level cap quests will also require merits). Since my playing's still fairly sporadic, I'd rather go out and be as proactive as I can on my own rather than waiting for invites, though I certainly will not refuse a good opportunity if it arises. (10/08/18 09:36)
Negata > I'm not sure what's it's like now, but Abyssea shouts in WG are pretty common and come together quickly. Half an hour, give or take. Man, I still need to get my DRG to 80 too :( Not enough time in the world. (10/08/18 09:44)
Cydori > There's my problem. I turned shout filters on about when ToAU came out, and I've never turned them off since. ;p (10/08/18 09:55)
Cydori > I note that for an MMO'er, I'm terribly antisocial. ;p (10/08/18 10:09)

Looking at my calendar, I realized that I'm not going to be available for xp this Thursday or next Thursday. This week I'll be helping the humeboy pack for a trip, and I'd like to spend some time with him before he leaves since he'll be gone for almost a week. Next Thursday I'll be hosting some out-of-town friends.

Feel free to get together in my absence. I'll plan for the next session involving me to be August 26th and will post accordingly as the time gets closer.
Hakhi > I'm about 50/50 at the moment on being able to attend on Thursday. Pending more information about a friend who is in town. (10/08/11 09:20)
Cealia > poke the humeboy with a stick. (10/08/12 00:07)

It is good to be back in xp. Thanks to everyone who came last night. Sorry about the last-minute planning. ^^;

Next Thursday, we'll be at it again. Negata will be back, and while Morlock will be out, Tharpy will be filling in for his spot. I'm bringing my NIN47. I would like to be the sync target, but if it works better to sync lower, I'm cool with that. We need someone to heal, someone to pull, and the rest can be various DD. If I end up being the sync target, we may be going to GC next, or possibly a different entrance of QSC with higher level beetles/antica.

In the grand scheme of things, I absolutely, positively want to get NIN and WHM to 50. After that, there are a few other jobs I'd like to take from 40 to 50, but I don't absolutely have to if people want to do something else at that point. Let's revisit things as I get closer to WHM50.

Update:
Cydori - NIN, Demandred - ???, Hakhi - ???, Klaital - ???, Negata - BLM (sync target), Tharpy - ???
Tentative Camp: Western Altepa Desert
Negata > For reference: Most of the jobs I want to level are at 40 (WAR, MNK, BLM, THF, SAM, NIN). I also have RDM at 20 and SCH at 25. I've got gear for BLM and a gear /plan/ for NIN. RDM and SCH have dodgy "it'll do" gear since they'd be mainhealing I guess. (10/07/30 09:09)
Cydori > Do you want to jump right in on one of the level 40 jobs, or wait until I'm bringing my WHM40 and sync something down in the meantime? (10/08/02 21:38)
Negata > WHM, DRG and BLU are all Abyssea fodder now! A 40 job will be ideal. (10/08/02 22:59)
Cydori > Okay. I'd say hold off on NIN for the moment since I'll be NIN for the next few weeks. If you want to swap to that when I go over to WHM, that could work. Since you have BLM gear, for simplicity's sake I'd say bring that this week. (10/08/03 11:00)
Hakhi > I can continue to bring MNK for DD or swap to RNG or DRG. I can also bring SCH if more healing is needed. (10/08/04 15:12)
Cydori > RNG might make more sense for this week since Morlock will be out and we'll need someone to pull. (10/08/04 16:37)

Okay! I will definitely be available for xp tonight! Besides me, I think the rest of the party tonight will be Demandred, Hakhi, Klaital, Morlock, and Negata. I will be bringing my NIN45, but am fine with syncing down. We'll need someone to be mainhealer at the very least. I figure we can work out jobs either here or when folks log on.
Klaital > DNC40 or RDM45 priority for me. If you need DD, RNG50 or DRK37. (10/07/29 11:19)
Negata > Dentist tomorrow, sorry. Definitely next week! (10/07/29 12:07)
Cydori > No worries; it was very short notice on my part. May you have no cavities! Meanwhile, anyone want to fill in for a week? (10/07/29 13:56)
Klaital > c'mon, how hard can it be to fill out a party that just needs DDs? ^^; got Dem and I to cover healing, and Cydori tanking! (10/07/29 17:36)
Negata > Plenty of cavaties :( This was root canal business :( (10/07/30 00:24)

No xp tomorrow. I've been really busy at work, I'm recovering from a minor injury to my left eye, and my husband's been so busy at his work that tomorrow is the first night all week he'll be getting home before 8:30 and I'd like to have some time with him.

Meanwhile, are you guys still interested in keeping at the xp, or is there some other activity you'd rather do instead? I'd like to xp, but I can work on things on my own if you'd prefer something else. I haven't had the chance to really ask folks about filling the open xp slots.
Klaital > XP still ok with me~ RDM still 45, DNC40. Otherwise take your pick of my 75+ jobs~ (10/07/22 13:33)
Morlock > seems like there is the remote possibility that you will have use for me again, this pleases me. (10/07/23 18:00)
Negata > I guess having some investment in lowbie jobs is a good idea. Not sure about my availablity for august but after that I'm good and regular (10/07/23 23:08)
Hakhi > I'm still ok with xp. Well assuming that the current power outage crap didn't blow up my desktop. It's possible. (10/07/26 14:30)
Cydori > Arrighty. I'm not sure about this week as one of the humeboy's friends is going to be at our place. I'll check in on the timing; I highly doubt he'd be offended if I went off to play. He and the humeboy can just play console games or watch DVDs or something. I see him fairly often so it's not like I'd be missing a rare visit. (10/07/27 09:09)

Okay, so I am back in action this week and ready for xp! I'll be bringing my NIN45. Where we go and who we sync to will depend on what other people bring. I think the usual group should all be here this week? If you can, please let me know what you're planning on so I can get a rough idea of the party setup. Thanks!
Hakhi > Can bring MNK, RNG, w/e is better for you (10/07/06 13:53)
Cydori > Okay, thanks! It may end up being a decision right at the time of xp. (10/07/06 15:03)
Karlinn > Sadly, I won't be able to make it to static for now; things are kind of piling up and I need some time off from the game (see journal for details). Feel free to rep me so you guys can keep going. Sorry Cydori, and good luck! (10/07/06 21:44)
Cydori > Okay, given that we've got two people out for good and I'm trying to get as much done at work before leaving on vacation Friday and thus am getting fairly stressed, let's cancel xp for this week. We can work out future plans later. (10/07/06 23:01)

Good session last night, guys, and welcome back, Sivara! (And Phil. ^_~)

As I mentioned, I'll be out next Thursday, July 1st, and Hakhi also has a good chance of being absent. We can either cancel, look for a couple of subs, or go on Wednesday instead if everyone can make it.
Negata > Again, willing to sub in if needed. Either day should be fine. (10/06/25 21:48)
Demandred > Either day is fine by me as well. ^_^ (10/06/27 12:06)
Cydori > If we moved to Wednesday, would anyone who hasn't spoken up yet have a problem making it? Also, what are we talking about, job-wise? Same as last week? Two weeks ago? Please let me know. (10/06/28 08:57)
Sivara > Phil usually raids on Wednesday so that wouldn't work well for me, since I can't get FFXI to install on my 360 and the other PC is still dead. (10/06/28 11:00)
Lothiriel > Also willing to sub. (10/06/28 15:18)
Negata > BLU is always my main preference, but WHM will be fine if needed, too. (10/06/29 07:31)
Hakhi > Can't do Thursday but can do Wed. Any jobs are ok. Now that I've cleared out marbles I'm back to where I can gear any of my jobs fairly quickly. (10/06/29 09:25)
Cydori > Okay. Given that I could use Wednesday to do some non-xp in-game stuff and some out-of-game stuff, why don't we have Negata and Lothiriel sub in on Thursday? You guys will need to figure out who you want to have tank, but I think you have enough flexibility available. We should be back to a normal schedule next week. (10/06/29 16:48)

There may be some job - and consequently some sync target and camp area - switching tonight. I'll still be on NIN, Karlinn will still be on WHM, and we can work out the rest as we go. Stay tuned.

Thanks to Negata and Morlock for coming out last night for xp!

Next session, Karlinn should be back as our WHM. Assuming we need a fill-in for the sixth spot, Morlock will try to make it and bring his THF. If he's unavailable, then we'll need a DD, preferably melee.

Campsitarus says that the West Altepa beetles are good through 44, but we were notcing a dropoff starting at 43 last night. They say that QSC beetles start at 45. I suspect we could start at 44. The plan there would be to sync to 44 to start, then adjust as needed. I'm 1.7k to 44; everyone else is already there. It would be possible to start at West Altepa and then move to QSC without much fuss if people prefer that.

Alternate camps on Campsitarus (Yhoator goblins, Onzozo cockatrices) are not so great for a NIN tank.
Negata > I'll go out again, if needed, on either BLU or DRG, former prefered. (10/06/18 23:22)
Cydori > Okay, I'll pencil you in as BLU if Morlock can't make it. Thank you! (10/06/19 11:17)
Sivara > I should be able to make it. We're home for good now and the only issue is possibly having to take a break to feed the baby. (10/06/19 16:32)
Cydori > Glad to hear that you and your little one are home and doing well! I think at this point, if you are okay with it, we may be better off syncing down your WAR or MNK since your SAM will go nicely with Karlinn's NIN and my WHM next round. I'll leave choice up to you; Hakhi is MNK, so I'm not sure if there are advantages/disadvantages to 2xMNK in a party. (10/06/20 14:34)
Hakhi > If you want (with a touch of warning) I could gear up my RNG 40 and we could just go back to West Altepa. And I can bring my MNK out again in a couple levels. (10/06/21 11:15)
Cydori > My personal preference is for me to be the sync target or near the sync target so I can keep my skills up. On the other hand, it's not really the end of the world for a job I'm just taking to 50, and if I really feel the need to cap skills I can grab some folks and go skilling. I don't want to be the Dictator of XP Levels, so if people prefer switching to a lower job sooner, let me know. Otherwise I will continue to use myself as the benchmark and try and group similar job levels together for future go-rounds. (10/06/22 10:39)
Karlinn > Yeah, I'll be in as WHM. West Altepa works just fine, I'll be there :) (10/06/22 18:35)

Here's our plans for this week's xp. Karlinn will be out, so Negata will bring WHM. If Sivara's available (which I would imagine is pretty unlikely), she'll bring a DD of her choice. If she's unavailable and Morlock's available, he can bring either his WAR or THF. If he brings THF, we'll have Hakhi as MNK/WAR first voke so Morlock can SATA on to me. If both Sivara and Morlock are unavailable, we'll rustle up a DD from somewhere.

Starting sync will be in the 40-41 range, so we'll be trying for beetles in West Altepa again.

Important note regarding activities this Thursday - there will be a pre-update update, which means the downloading of a large amount of files. Please take this into account and allow yourself extra time when logging in.
Morlock > I can see about being a replacement next week - moderate liklihood at the moment (10/06/11 19:29)
Morlock > WAR 40 or THF 41 are my top choices. (10/06/11 19:37)
Negata > I'll try to make it out, too, if no one else wants to take the position. (10/06/12 04:47)
Cydori > If you're okay with doing WHM, Negata, then this works out really well. I'll post details in a bit. (10/06/12 09:33)
Negata > WHM's fine. On the one hand, I don't really want to max it out to the new level caps. On the other, mang whm is useful anyway! (10/06/14 09:35)
