HiHi~

I completed the WoTG Bastok-S Storyline series last night with a 5-person group. A lot of running around the Castle Zvahl-S, but none of it was all that difficult with our setup of PLD, 2x melee, WHM and BLM.

No taru-splat, so no screenshot! ^.^v

Bastok-S has control of all its zones this week, including Beadeaux-S, which means the Cracking Shells Campaign has opened up. I tried running this in the afternoon. Rather hard to get people, took a few hours. Klaital went on PLD, Demandred on WHM, we got a pick-up RDM, and two Jpn players on BRD and RDM, and myself on BLM. Resulted in a wipe unfortunately.

After studying it a bit, I tried it again a few times -- one RDM, one COR, and remaining damage dealers either BLM, or RNG (I imagine SCH, SMN or PUP would work well too). It's a fairly straightforward fight done this way, since the NM doesn't close to melee. Just sleep the adds, and nuke down the NM. With sufficient damage, you can kill it before sleep resistance builds up.

Some sources suggested the NM was a WHM. However, we can definitely say he's RNG, as he used Eagle Eye shot in the fight.

With control of the Northlands, the Fiat Lux Campaign Operation has been open this week. Thus far, I've gone 3/4 on this fight so far:

1: Loss
2: Win, Tiercel Necklace
3: Win, Hecate's Cape
4: Win, Nightfall (great sword), Nocturnus Mail (body piece), Tiercel Necklace

Surprisingly, it's not that difficult. I'd say the fight itself is much easier than either the San d'Oria or Windurst boss-Campaign Ops, but with a long and dangerous trip to the Throne Room. It's also quite hard on whoever is doing the sacrificial pulling of shadow-clones, as I've seen the move used as many as 4x times in one battle.

Edit: A picture of the line of party leaders waiting to get into the fight.

Since the last major update, there's been a way to skill up weapons almost effortlessly. The Fortilace objects in Zvahl can be used to cap a weapon, and they just sit there, much like Campaign Fortifications used to. There are some differences however. You need to take caution, as the surroundings nearby aren't guaranteed to be safe. Sometimes, I was able to park myself safely for hours at a time at the Fortilace on the Zvahl Baileys 2nd map (near Quadavs) and just auto-attack, but just a slight shift in position could mean a mob would eventually come looking for me.

The Fortilace doesn't have that much HP and don't Regen, so to make it last you'll need to equip a low damage weapon, as low as possible without hitting for zero. In my case, a training needle (Dmg 1 dagger) was too low, but a bronze dagger was just right (Dmg 3 dagger), doing about 2-4 points each attack. Unfortunately, this damage restriction means that you can't really skill H2H efficiently on them, or any job/weapon combination that only has higher-level weapons available (like Scythe on BLM) -- you'll destroy it too fast.

They have some evasion, and I needed Accuracy food and gear to hit them at first (Marinara Pizza is good due to long duration). In two days, I brought my BLM's dagger skill up from 127 to 210 (cap).

The Fortilaces are part of the Bailey Borer Campaign Op, but for that purpose most people just go after the ones located outside on the Castle Zvahl first map, and don't bother touching the ones deeper in -- so you are unlikely to have trouble with people needing to kill it, except possibly during the post-Sunday rush.

10/03/01 14:15 Pre-loading Auspice?(open)10/04/20 00:39(98)
I've been thinking about how to tactically use the Auspice spell, and came up with an idea I'm not sure if workable, but might be interesting to test.

From what FFXIclopedia reports, Auspice grants an accuracy boost that rises each time you miss, and that the cumulative total can be maintained by overlapping casts before it wears off. If this is so, could it be possible to "pre-load" Auspice prior to taking on a high-evasion mob (such as Chigre, for instance)?

Before the fight, melees could chug Blinding Potions and whiff on a mob (this limits the tactic to certain zones with sufficiently high-level targets available). Supposedly, the potions have a fairly heavy effect, greater than the typical spell equivalent. Then blindna the effect off before the main fight, and recast Auspice to keep the cumulative bonus up.

I have no idea what the cap for Auspice accuracy bonus is, but I believe it may be substantial. Unfortunately, it may be difficult to measure as the accuracy boost does not function quite the same as accuracy gear, with supposedly no effect on evasion /check messages.

Negata > I -think- the Auspice ACC boost is MiseryWHM only. (10/03/02 03:44)
Guppy > Difficult to say, given the reading of the Auspice spell-scroll text. However, Afflatus stances will soon be available on /whm subjob, and we already know that you do not have to be the Auspice-casting WHM to be able to gain advantage of Misery En-light effect. (10/03/02 15:11)

Guppy > Actually... I could be mis-reading the whole thing. Auspice might work like Zanshin, with a bonus for one swing after one miss. In which case none of this works. (10/04/20 00:37)
Nimbex > That was really what I figured it was in the first place. (10/04/20 12:32)

It turns out 5% is the minimum floor for impurity rise during Synergy. In addition, the rise is also affected by the Fewell feeding training you take as well. As a result, my previous comments using it as a guideline should be discarded, as it is not any sort of a reliable indicator for leveling.

I've participated in a few group synths of armor already, and should be sufficiently leveled up to make all of the items released so far (as long as we have party members with the appropriate craft levels). So, send me a pokies if you need anything synergized.

Edit: I am finished leveling Synergy for now, having reached the Lvl 50 cap!

09/12/21 09:36 Synergy and the Furia mage set?(open)09/12/21 10:28(95)
stuff
I happened to stumble upon a taru (possibly a Jpn player) wearing what looks like one of the new Synergy-related mage sets. First time I've seen a Furia set up close. I don't know if the new sets are worth the price or effort, but they look quite nice.

Now that Fewell and Fewell ingredients are gradually coming down in price, it's become more reasonable to skillup. While the price and availability of colored rocks remains poor in most places, the Goldsmithing Shop in Mhaura occasionally will have good prices on colored rocks.

For skilling up, I've been trying to target items of a level that will give somewhere between 5 to 15 points of increase in impurity per Fewell. I don't know for sure if the skillup rate changes with level gap, but it feels like there's a sweet spot around this range.

As you level up, the impurity rise rate slows, while the Thwacking success rate increases. The Fewell Feeding trait also seems to affect Impurity rise too. If you turn off "Command Verification", you can skip a dialogue box to Thwack faster, getting up to 3x tries before each blast. I try to have a couple of different synths available to take advantage of whatever Fewell or Crystal is cheap at the moment.

I've been pretty much using the following options:

* Starts with Water on Juices (Orange / Pineapple / Melon / Grape / Yagudo). While the last two can also take Dark, it isn't worth the money at this point, just spam water. Move up the list as the impurity build-up starts to slow down, and skip tiers if convenient. Some cooking skill required. Since the ingredients are cheap, you can complete some for the Cinder yield (other items I just fail-synth repeatedly).

* As an alternative to juice, etch Wands & Mordant (Willow / Yew / Chestnut / Rose) with Fire, depending on element availability. Fire was originally less available than water post-update, but this seems to gradually have shifted, and you may be able to get Rocks / Crystals cheaper sometimes. Must be able to Viruna yourself after explosions.

* Earth on Koenig shield & Mordant. This was one of my favorite skill-up choices, but only when Yellow Rocks were available. By Hasting yourself, you can avoid the Slow effect from explosions, saving some time. Oddly, I've gotten a few rare Dark element explosions on it, even when only Earth fewell was fed (Koenig etching can be either Earth and Dark).

* At around the same level as Koenig Shield -- Wind on Brass Jadagna & Mordant (Behemoth Knife is cheaper and also Wind). While wind crystals are plentiful and cheap, this has the problem that explosions will randomly blow out other fewell elements, so you end up spending as much (or more) than other Fewells (unless you use up all other fewells to zero first). I didn't level on Wind much, just a little here and there.

* Fire/Ice/Water on my Culinarian Apron. Even though Apron synths have a high cap level, I also did this synth any time at lower levels, when other fewells were scarce (meaning lots of explosions). Mostly, it allowed me to spam Ice, which was plentiful much of the time.

When picking possible recipes on FFXI-wiki, don't just look at the recipe list, also check out the Etch list as well. I haven't found much difference in the skillup rates between the two kinds of synergy.

I am currently up to Level 31 synergy.

Shadowneko > good job...as for me I just strated crafting... (09/12/21 12:56)

So, I decided to try making some Pot-Au-Feu (Cooking Lvl 56), to see how well I could HQ at 100 +3(Guild Item) +3(Hocho) +Support. Results were:

Lightningsday and Lightsday, Waxing Cresent
49 Synths Total
124x Pot-Au-Feu, 8x Pot-Au-Feu +1

2.0% Break
53.1% NQ
36.7% HQ1
8.2% HQ2

Anyway, two reasons to try this now. One was the release of Synergy actually. The Brass tanks required for the Synergy quest meant that lots of people were Chocodigging for zinc ore in Altepa, and plentiful Giant Femurs (non-stacking item) were a side effect.

The other was, that I started to wonder if Hocho's +3 Cooking could really break the usual maximum skill attainable for most crafts. I've synthed stuff sitting at the HQ breakpoints before, but never actually bothered to track statistics before. Overall, I had a 45% HQ (50% expected) rate in this case, which suggests that Hocho probably works as expected.

Anyway, if anyone has been playing around with ranged attacks, let me know if you want any at a discount.

Nimbex > awww, poor rarabs! :( (09/12/18 10:08)
Nimbex > What does "124x Pot-Au-Feu, 8x Pot-Au-Feu +1" mean? (09/12/18 10:23)
Kireila > It means, of the 49 synths, the total yield was 124x Pot-au-Feu, and 8x Pot-au-Feu +1. From my very stellar math skillz, 26 resulted in Pot-au-Feu x2, 18 (?) resulted in Pot-au-feu x4, and 4 resulted in 2x Pot-au-Feu +1, and the remaining broke. >.> (09/12/18 10:57)
Nimbex > ahhh, of course, HQ2 is the one where you get +1. Silly me. Sort of like Mithkabobs. I'm so used to HQ1 entailing a +1 result. (09/12/18 10:59)

Now here's something interesting regarding the new Racing Silks. When playing the Hot-and-Cold game, it might be possible to obtain the benefits of both the White and Black silks. However, this assumes that the effect of the Black Racing Silk occurs when you equip it, rather than needing to be equipped at the time you summon your chocobo. So, I'm not yet sure if it actually works.
http://www.bluegartrls.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3272431&postcount=285

Posted by user "Teorem":
"Also, in case it wasn't mentioned already in this thread or anywhere else, the 'Endurance +1' effect of the White Racing Silks means an extra dig BEFORE you reach fatigue. For example, in Yhoator Jungle you'll normally get 'Your chocobo seems a little fatigued' after the 9th dig without the White Racing Silks equipped. With the Silks equipped, you'll get the fatigue message after the 10th dig instead.

Thus, after you get the message, you should switch to the Black Racing Silks for the extra Jackpot chance because it'll always be five digs after that when the chocobo will refuse to dig anymore, regardless of what you're wearing, unless you actually hit the Jackpot."

Well, we finished the ASA Final fight this weekend, going 1/2 for me. Jahn's diary has a nice detailed description of the fight. What he's polite enough to omit, is that I was pretty much responsible for our loss the first time around. I lost critical moments before realizing I was silenced, and then fumbled for my echo drop while the front line went down.

The second time went much more smoothly. After each round of AoE enfeebles, paralyze would eat up to several echo drops, so they have to be spammed rapidly. Starting Buffs:

Prot/Shell V
Barparalyzra/Barblizzara
Auspice
Haste
Stoneskin/Blink/Aquaveil on self

One of D. Shantotto's early moves in the fight is to Dispel-ga, removing one buff from each person (apparently at random). I don't think Aquaveil or Auspice were terribly valuable, but having as many buffs as possible at start is good for keeping important ones (like Shell) from being dispelled -- in retrospect, I should have asked one of our SAMs to put up Warding Circle as one more decoy buff for this purpose.

I don't know at what point in the fight the barspells dropped, there were far too many identical-looking status icons for me to keep track of everything -- but it probably would have been useful for me to have recast them partway through. However, once things heat up there's little time for anything except spamming healing spells and echo drops.

Choice of Reward Augments: Movement Speed and Cure Potency. I figure both are difficult traits to obtain, and operate well independently of anything else on the pants (although I may miss having a little extra -Enmity).

Nayami > You need to take a picture of your new pants! :D But grats! Just started Shantotto here, it's pretty fun so far. :o (09/11/16 00:42)

I have stacks of various crafted-only snacks for the upcoming Halloween event, if anyone still needs to do it. Since each type of treat only works once per game day, having a wide selection of items can speed things up a lot.

While the NPC-purchasable cookies are the cheapest way to complete the event, there are several types not available, including the HQs (which count as a separate type for treat purposes).

Update - This is all stuff left over, either from last Halloween or guild turn-ins. Some of the non NPC-vendor cookie/cracker types I have available, which I believe should work for the event:

Wizard Cookie
Garlic Cracker +1
Spicy Cracker / Red Hot Cracker +1
Thought I had some Coin cookies too, but I can't find them at the moment.

Ginger / Acorn / Cinna Cookies, NQ Garlic Crackers are all sold by NPCs as well and should work, although availability for some items may be dependent on region/rank.
Shadowneko > hmm...guppy I maybe buy some cookies for summoner. I've been missing food for ages... (09/10/12 08:45)
