LIMBUS UPDATE
We had our first Omega run yesterday, miraculously had 12 people show up so thought we would give it a shot. Turned out a few of those people I thought were around were AFK, we still ended up with 12 but a couple of those were dual boxers.
Long story short, got it to around 5% HP and ran out of time. This was mostly my fault, as I misinterpreted the poorly worded wiki page and had the stances backwards for the first 10 minutes of the fight, so we weren't getting much damage in and wasted a lot of time. I think we had, maybe 5-6 deaths total? Without the stance confusion, we would have easily won, I think.
The bidding system I tried for lotting drops was a bit complicated. Though I think that system is probably the most fair, it was kind of annoying, so I'm going to go to try something a little simpler. Each armor piece will now cost a set amount of points (these numbers will fluctuate, more on that later). Let's say, for example, Homam hands are 8 points. Hakhi and Zoof both want to lot them, and have 27 and 19 points, respectively. Hakhi would get dibs on hands if they dropped; if two dropped, Zoof would get second pair.
Note that active members will have lotting priority, active means you have attended at least 3 of the last 5 runs. In the above example, if Hakhi was inactive but attended the boss run, Zoof would get first dibs on hands if they dropped. Note if you are a dual-boxed character, you can still count as being active if you meet the criteria, but you are also only awarded half the points for attendance.
Points will vary based on the attendance points of active members. Each member has a running tally of attendance points (e.g. as of today, I have the highest points with 35, Nimbex is second with 33, followed by Siv with 29, Hakhi with 27, etc.). I will then take the average of the attendance points for all active members, let's call this number P. As of yesterday's run, P = 23.6. Drops will cost a certain percentage of P, rounded to the nearest integer:
Homam Head: 0.2*P Body: 0.4*P Hands: 0.6*P Feet: 0.8*P Legs: 1.0*P
Nashira TBD
As of yesterday's run, this would translate to a point value of 5, 9, 14, 19, and 24 for head, body, hands, feet, and legs, respectively. The reason I'm allowing it to fluctuate based on active members is so new people have a reasonable shot of getting something in the not-so-distant future.
This is a subjective system, so input is welcome. Input for Nashira weightings would also be helpful, as I'm not very familiar with the set.
We will try Omega again this Sunday if enough people show up, if not we will farm a Temenos. See you then!
*edit* For people's reference, here is a list of member points as of 11/29/09. An * denotes an "inactive" member. People that haven't shown up for 2 months are omitted from the list (though they will retain their points if they ever come back).
35 Lothiriel 29 Sivara* 33 Nimbex 16 Jahn 27 Hakhi 19 Zoofster* 24 Kireila 22 Karlinn 24 Demandred 24 Klaital 7 Morlock 12 Drydin* 2 Madalynn* 1 Okamura* 0.5 Kurapica* Nimbex > Drydin missed 3 out of the past 5? Hmm, I know he missed 2 out of the last 2, so I guess that's possible. Morlock hasn't shown up in 2 months, yet Kurapica has shown up in the past 2 months? That seems impossible. I think valueing each drop based on awesomeness is fine. I don't mind the bidding, and suspect it can be done just in the time of sleep potioning and travelling, now that people understand the system. (09/11/30 12:42) Sivara > D'oh, I missed Omega. Sorry about that. Sunday mornings are so hit-or-miss for me these days. (09/11/30 13:26) Lothiriel > Oops I forgot to put Morlock on the list. And yeah, Drydin missed November 1st as well. If he shows up next week he will be "active" again. (09/11/30 14:53) Nimbex > As for Nashira, I believe that most jobs are interested in fewer pieces than the Homam jobs might be. Feet is great elemental skill now, but might be superceded. Legs is enfeebling, and I don't think it's superceded. Hands are pretty much only of interest to SMN main, as I recall. (09/11/30 14:57) Kireila > In addition, Nashira body is nice for Haste/Refresh (though Goliard supercedes for both), and the best body piece for Drain/Aspir/Stun. (09/11/30 15:05) Lothiriel > Either of you care to propose a point scheme for Nashira similar to the one for Homam above? It's hard to do it from a BLMs perspective, b/c none of it is really stellar for BLM. (09/11/30 15:56) Kireila > I will throw out this point scheme for Nashira: Head: 0.2*P, Feet: 0.4*P, Hands: 0.6*P, Body: 0.8*P, Legs: 1.0*P (09/12/02 14:43) Nimbex > This seems like a reasonable proposal, in line with the other ones. Incidentally, the list is the same except with feet and body switching positions. I guess legs are awesome and heads are terrible, either way! (09/12/03 10:06) Zoofster > I would say that parts of Nashira just aren't useful to a lot of classes, such as the hands being SMN-only. The other set's very useful for the classes that can wear it in most cases, giving it more universal appeal. You may want to look into a different pricing meathod for that than a straight .2-1.0 listing. (09/12/04 02:05) Lothiriel > I would disagree with you, Zoof, on Homam's usefulness. Body and head are worthless, IMO, except perhaps body for THF. And the hands are really a Dusk side-grade, a bit better but has the enmity disadvantage (good for PLD though). If you disagree with Kir's proposal, feel free to make another one. There's no reason to use the same weightings as we did with Homam. The other option is to just wait until we do Ultima, and bid the first time around, then I can base the weights for next time on the bids. (09/12/04 10:46) Morlock > what about those of us who have no desire to get omega / ultima drops? (09/12/04 23:20) Guppy > One way to help set weightings, is to take a look at the items being bazaared or wanted on FFXIAH, both the prices being asked for, as well as the relative numbers of offered/sought. (09/12/06 10:09) Demandred > I have to disagree, Lothiriel. The Homam head is good if you are a BLU, making it more or less equivalent to the Nashira hands: only one job really gives a care about it. Zoof: I am curious as to what system you propose. (09/12/06 10:29) Zoofster > Well, it really comes down to how you want things to work. Flat costs means there's no difference between getting it early compared to getting it late: Those who get it first pay the same as those getting it later. A bidding system means the people who get it last will, in theory, pay less points per piece than those getting it first: The last person getting a piece will pay dirt-cheap prices for it. This makes for a system that will 'right' itself later on as those with tons of points duke it out for the high-end items, while those with few points will catch up. (09/12/06 11:23) Zoofster > A flat cost, on the other hand, puts a minimum attendance required to get pieces, and as desirability changes when more people get certain pieces, the costs won't change to reflect that. If you've got only one person bidding on Homam head, for instance, it's going to be low. (09/12/06 11:35) Zoofster > I'd propose a bidding system, with a minimum up-bid to speed things up. You bid when items drop and have, say, a minute to finish bidding. Make sure everyone knows what can drop so there's no confusion as to what each piece is. (09/12/06 11:51) Zoofster > Hmmm, actually, on second thought, I have an idea. You could make the cost of items scale up the more you get: Your first piece costs x, next costs x+y, next costs x+y+z, and so on. Reset the cost every three months or so to keep things in line. (09/12/06 12:52) Lothiriel > I'm thinking a combination of these two ideas might be best... a bidding system, but implement a minimum bid for each piece. That way, someone is not getting gear for 1 point when desireability drops down the line, and it will speed up the bidding process because we're starting at 5 or 10 instead of zero. I think I will make the minimum either 5 or 10. We'll use 10 for Homam Feet/Legs and Nashira Body/Legs, based on the above feedback, and 5 for everything else. Also from now on I'm going to start collecting all the "extra" coins each week + during boss runs and putting them into a bank of sorts. People can use their accrued points to buy these extra coins. That way if they don't give a flip about Homam OR Nashira, they have something to use their points on. I'll work out the points/coin ratio later... but I'm thinking 1/1 is probably appropriate. As always, input is welcome... I'm also going to try to get all my spreadsheets up on google docs soon so there is more transparancy in what is going on here... lol. (09/12/08 17:31) Zoofster > Not going to be here this week. (09/12/10 23:57) Karlinn > Sorry for the late notice, but unfortunately I can't make it to this week's Limbus. Buddy of mine's having a barbecue for the Bears-Packers game tomorrow and waited until the last minute to tell me. I'll try and let somebody know on the shell as well, so you guys aren't waiting for me or anything. Good luck out there! (09/12/12 19:59) Zoofster > Bears suck!.. and it makes me sad. :( (09/12/14 18:50) Guppy > Da Bears... (09/12/15 09:17) Lothiriel > Nimbex will be running Limbus on 12/20 and 12/27. Please note attendance and keep extra coins for the bank. Klaital needs the following zones for his chip set: SW Apollyon, Temenos W, and Temenos E. If he is not around you can start the next chip set on Nimbex or Hakhi. (09/12/16 11:09)
