The end of the road(open)10/02/28 14:35(118)
I've always kinda left the option available that at some point I might come back and play more FFXI. I even just moved my ffxi install to another hard drive instead of outright uninstalling it so it'd be easier to get patched if I came back.

But recent news regarding FFXI has made my decision. In particular, the level cap increase from 75 up to 99. Should I come back after it's been upped, I'd have to take time to gear and level war and nin up to 12 more levels so they'd be okay as sub for mnk. And, of course, there might be a new subjob that's perfect for monk to use and I'd have to add 20+ levels of that job to the pile of stuff as well.... At that point, I'd still have to level my main. I like progressing through the game and leveling, but the amount of time and effort to play catch-up is a bit more than I'm willing to accept at this point in my life.

Given that I'm not touching FFXIV, I dunno when/where online I might be meeting with many of the people from FI and CTY (maybe that Star Wars MMO? ^_^ ) but I look forward to the inevitable mass of awesome that would result from the group of people meeting up again.

So long, FFXI, and thanks for all the fists.
Demandred > Sorry to see you leave permanently, but I can't fault your reason. It is going to be an interesting next several months as it stands. I hear that you've been having interesting times with the Star Wars MMO, so I hope it doesn't let you down. Take care, and we'll see where you pop up again. :) (10/02/28 22:08)

Thoughts on Uninstalling(open)09/11/05 21:23(117)
Haven't had much luck on the job search front to date.

I've started pondering uninstalling FFXI from my laptop. My laptop has the version of FFXI that I was playing on for the last 2ish years til I stopped. I've kept it installed with the idea of coming back at a later date, though the idea's been lessened by some of the policies added by SE since I stopped. On one hand, that's 7-9ish gigs that's been unusable all this time that I could free up. OTOH, removing it feels like I'm making the decision not to return to FFXI once I have the money to do so.

I'm conflicted. :<

Well, it turned out that my medical waiver for my hand was denied for the second time. The long wait to learn of this was due to my recruiter missing catching me with calls and then it slipping her mind. It was denied due to something about no improvement (not sure where the improvement would be - my hand AFAIK has full normal range of motion plus some on all but maybe one finger, and no issues gripping things) between first denial and reapplying, so enlisting in the Army is a no go. I've decided that I won't try any other branch (Air Force/Navy/Coast Guard), which means I need to start looking for a job. Upside, a Wal-mart is about to open in 1-2 months just a 10-15 minute drive from home so I could always look for a job there while deciding where to go from here.

--

In other news, I might not return to FFXI. See, my old debit card was to expire in August and I had activated my new card in mid-July. I didn't bother updating my POL CC info at the time because I figured I could just do that when I went to start playing again. And then a week or two later we had the Verified by Visa/SecureCard "upgrade" to POL. Like Elizara and Shadowneko, I use(d) my Wachovia debit card to pay for FFXI. Wachovia doesn't support Verified by Visa.

I haven't decided yet if finding/getting a VbV/SC covered CC (once I get a job) just so I can play FFXI is worth the trouble. :(
Elizara > Yuck. I still hope to see you again. We at least have a option to change the CC on the PS2/PS3 (since it's a PS3 account), but I feel sorry for those that can't. I even called Wachovia since me and Neko use the same bank; they have their own program for this sorta thing >< Makes me want to spit. (09/08/24 09:03)
Elizara > Err PS2. it's a original PS2 acct. (09/08/24 09:07)
Fait > Eli: you can change the CC regardless of what platform you play on. (09/08/24 16:23)
Phht > Fait: But PS2 doesn't have the VbV/SecureCard crap like PC POL people have to deal with. (09/08/24 21:24)
Fait > I'm surprised they haven't implemented it on that yet. Probably PS2 limitations!!! (09/08/25 18:00)
Cealia > phht babies. i will miss you much. actually, i have already been missing you.. come back soon and good luck on the job hunt :) (09/08/25 21:27)
Shadowneko > aww man...I still need people to play with XD (09/08/26 09:02)
Elizara > Fait: We can't change it to WACHOVIA card unless we use PS2/PS3 because there's no way you can verify that because they are not in program. If they ever implement on PS2, we can never use wachovia again tho for FFXI >< (09/08/26 16:54)

Army front:
About 1-2 weeks after my last trip to MEPS, got word that they turned down my medical waiver for my hand. After being bummed out for several weeks, I went about getting a letter from my ortho doc that did the work on my hand stating my hand had no range of motion restrictions etc and would survive the rigors of basic training. Handed that off to my recruiter so they can refile for the waiver with it, and have been waiting for word back for about a month now.

If the second try gets denied, then that's it. I could always try the Air Force or Navy in case they feel the permanent pins/plate in my hand are okay for getting through basic, but....

Not there yet(open)09/03/23 00:52(114)
In case anyone was wondering:

1) Went to MEPS. Did full physical. Disqual-ed due to hand and eyesight.
2) Waited 3-4 weeks until MEPS set up an appointment for a consult for my hand.
3) Went to MEPS last week and had hand and eye consults done.
4) Currently waiting for the waiver process to complete and learn if I get the medical waivers necessary to allow me to enlist.

So yeah. I've mainly been sitting on my ass the past month or so while waiting for various admin crap to be done so I can take a few steps forward and wait more. "Hurry up and wait" is such an apt motto for the military.

Well, turns out my hand got a pass so I'll be heading up to MEPS (Military Enlistment Processing Station) on Sunday for processing Monday. I should be back home by 7-8p and, barring something coming up, should be enlisted by that point.

At that point I'll likely be waiting until March for BCT (Boot Camp/Basic Training). That'll be 10 weeks, then I'll hopefully be coming back to my local area for AIT (the job specific training) which could last something like 18 weeks.

Which means I won't get to see the end of Battlestar Galactica until well after it ends. D:

Okay, I just realized that I completely forgot about Assault static tonight. Likely because I haven't logged in to FFXI since before Christmas. To be honest I haven't really felt like doing _anything_ in FFXI at all.

To top things off, last week I started the process of enlisting in the Army. Barring not getting a medical waiver with regards to the pins/plate in my left hand (or something I wasn't aware of), I'll probably be offline by mid-February at the latest for at least ten weeks for boot. I might be on a little after that until job specific training starts (I'm angling for a MOS in the Signal Corps, which should bring me back to the local area for that training).

Between that and my apparent apathy for the game, I'm considering canceling my IDs later this month and coming back some time down the road.

So, sorry for forgetting about static, Hakhi. I've had a lot on my mind and that slipped my notice. :(

Assault vs Campaign items(open)08/12/14 22:27(111)
Okay, I'm looking at gear for monk available from Assault and Campaign.

Right now, my assault wishlist is:
Pahluwan body/hands/legs/feet.

However, comparing Pah hands to Cobra Mittens shows that, other than def, the cobra gear worked better for me. I'm encountering the same issue with feet, and aside from Str+3 and def on the legs, the cobra subligar looks better too.

So, should I drop most of my pahluwan items from assault wishlist in favor of cobra gear?

(Oh, and is there any Nyzul armor I should care about?)

--

I never thought I'd run into this problem, but...

Ulthalam's Ring vs Ecphoria Ring vs Blood Ring? Is losing Store TP+1 from Ecphoria Ring worth acc+1 and a lot of resist effect enhances? Or att+4 from Ulth's instead of replacing Ecphoria Ring?
Lothiriel > For MNK I would go with Pahluwan legs & feet, cobra hands, and dump the pahluwan body for a Scorpion Harness. For rings, Ulthalams > Blood > Ecphoria, unless you need the Store TP to get you to an "x-hit" build, which is generally only important for 2-handers. (08/12/14 23:08)
Lothiriel > Ah I guess with 3x Cobra pieces you get Counter +2, which may be worth ditching the Pahluwan for... hard to say. (08/12/14 23:36)

So. Wow.

Sunday's TAU44 run started 50mins late, and just as we were about to decide whether to replace Zoof and go, he appears! First two tries fail to get past the blu.

Third time, we were all "fuck it! Cure the pld! If you are curing someone other than the pld, it's called 'regen'!" We smashed through the blu with only one death, IIRC. Smacked around the pre-tincan tincan. Then we started in on the actual tincan. Got it down to ~48-49% and Divine Judgement tore us up. Radiant Sacraments following wiped us. We tractored people and raised. Waited for death sick to wear, rested up, and with 10-15 minutes left jumped back into the fight. Soon after the 5min warning he dropped under 20% and everyone that had an useful two hour fired it off. Zoof was Chainspell Stunning, Loth was KC drking, I was Hundred Fisting. Less than 30sec later, it was dead. And we were treated to what I consider a Crowning Moment of Awesome. That post-battle CS was incredible.

So, congratulations to Lothiriel, Drexel, Zoofster, Treasa, and Miyasha (who has been waiting for this clear as long as I have) for completing the storyline. I wish I had taken screenshots now.

Oh, and I got my last level of HtH merits. I think crit-% will be next, followed by finishing crit+%. I think I'll shift into monk specific merits after that.

On a not-quite-as-freaking-awesome topic, besides mnk nyzul weapon should I care about any armor drops from Nyzul? Anyone know? >.>

I'll be trying to work on blm 10->20 this week, along with sam 30->37. Maybe even dnc 11->20 if I go fast enough.

Need to get my gift for Secret Santa for FI's get together Wed, and I think I'll be up for promotion after Assault static.
Zoofster > Heh heh heh. Hundered fisting. (08/12/09 10:22)

Okay, so I'm a bit late on getting this up. Sorry!

Last week, we had lots of death both runs, but managed to get to the main fight and the tincan down to 48% our first run. That's really freaking awesome.

Now, refer back to the last post for most of the details.

Changes:

Start time: Dec 7, 2p EST.

Stun order:
Zoof
Loth
Drex
(during magic kill round I'll save TP and try to do Shoulder Tackle in emergencies, but don't include me in the order)

Fighting the blu:
--Mages stand back by the door, melees stand near the front of the hallway so we have AoE spacing.

Fighting the tincan:
--Loth and I need space out from each other a bit more since we were in AoE range of each other that time Loth pulled hate due to Treasa being terrored.
--Miya call off when MP is at 25% and under 10% so Zoof knows to get ready to take over healing duties
--Better handling of Divine Judgement. Have Loth/me disengage and run for the edge at 50% while Treasa hits Fealty, or what?

I think that about covers things. Anything I missed? If not, see people Sunday!

Lothiriel > I think your adjustments pretty much cover everything. I'm going to try to bring more meds this time, yag drinks, mulsums, au lait, maybe a vile. (08/12/04 16:34)
Zoofster > Also, for divine judgement, if Treasa fires up Rampart, it should help absorb some of the damage. A shame I can't do Stupid Scholar Tricks (I'd need SCH 75 for that) to get group stoneskin for that, but we should be fine. (08/12/05 12:20)
Lothiriel > Also I think if we pass the 50% mark, and everyone is still alive, we should go into zerg mode, start popping iwing and 2 hours. Zoof can wait for ~10% to Chainspell Stun the second judgement. (08/12/05 12:32)
Lothiriel > Seems like our usually static is cancelled, so we can start ToAU earlier if people are around. (08/12/06 16:49)
Treasa > I'll get online early. All looks good to me. (08/12/06 23:15)
Phht > Congrats to the whole group for TAU44 clear! :D (08/12/07 17:55)

We had a STUNNING clear of TAU42 today. Drex got switched to nin for this attempt, and we had zoof pull the blu off to a far corner to sleep 'er while we smashed us some gears. I nearly died in the first room (oops!) but survived due to miya's well timed cures. We killed all the Gears and jumped the blu. Naturally she ran like hell after we smacked her. Next room, we repeated the process, smacked the blu again, and survived that room with no deaths. The final room was a bit more annoying, but Loth popped 2hr and our foe's health rapidly dropped from 30ish to 0!

So, on to THE fight of TAU missioning. :D

TAU44 SPOILERS BELOW

TAU 44 - Nashmeira's Plea ( http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Aht_Urhgan_Mission_44:_Nashmeira%27s_Plea )

Start time: 3:30p eastern, Nov 30
Meet location: Nyzul Isle Staging Point

Party:
Treasa - PLD
Miyahsa - WHM/blm
Zoofster - RDM/drk
Drexel - BLM
Lothiriel - DD/sam
Phht - MNK/war (or /sam if I can get it to 37 in time)

Opponents:
Raubahn - BLU, RRs twice. If we kill him with majority of one type of damage the first two times, he's immune to it the last time. So we need to kill with melee once and magic once so he's not immune to anything the final time.
-Formless Strikes counts as non-elemental magic damage, so I can pop that during the magic killing time.
-He can use his 2hr each time he RRs, so he'll likely use it 3 times.

Razfahd - He's inside the tin can. Beat the snot of out him until he's 50% health or less.

Alexander - Tin can goes sentient. Kill it and save the world. Again.

Strategy:
Raubahn
-We pull him to the corridor area. If we fight too close to the tin can, Razfahd will cast on us. We need people with stun/sleep/stun-JA to keep Raubahn from casting Eyes on Me, particularly when Azure Lore is up.

First round, we'll melee him to death. Feel free to toss some magic at him, but just make sure the majority of damage is from the DDing.

Second round, I use Formless Strikes and melee him along with Treasa's tanking him. People with offensive spells can just burn the punk down. Once Formless Strikes wears off, I'll disengage and work on Chi Blast if necessary.

Third round, zerg him. DDs and mages have no restrictions on damage here. Just get him dead.

Razfahd
-Weak punk. Use to build TP. Once he hits 50% he pops Perfect Dodge and CS ensues.

Alexander
-The main attraction of this fight.
-Big abilities to watch for:
--Divine Judgement - AoE magic (light?) damage radial around the target. Uses at 50% and possibly multiple times around 5%. Chat log warning of "ΩΩΩΩΩΩΩ" preceeds this move. PLD merit JA Fealty works well at minimizing damage from this.
--Radiant Sacrament - Targetted AoE with physical damage and Magic Def Down effect. Cannot be blocked by shield, but phys dmg reduction and Sentinel helps.
--Mega Holy - AoE light damage
--Gospel of the Lost - Heals Alexander for 900-1100 damage and removes debuffs.
--Perfect Defense - Complete immunity to physical, ranged, and/or magic damage for a short period of time. Can be used multiple times. If it goes up, check for its immunity.

Treasa will be right in front of it outside of melee range. Use JAs and Spells to keep hate and do damage.

Miyasha will be within range of Treasa and the DDs, but out of range of tincan's AoE moves against them. Cure priority is Treasa.

Zoof will stick himself somewhere where he can Refresh/Cure miya and Treasa. When/if Miyasha needs to rest for mp, Zoof will take over Cure duties.

Loth and I will pick spots out of AoE range of each other and Treasa (while within spell cast range of Miyasha) and start DDing Alexander. Both of us need to make sure not to pull hate off Treasa.

Drex will be at the entrance to the hallway and casting highest Tier spells or AM. Run back to the door to escape range of all attacks when needed. Just be sure not to draw hate off Treasa.

Best spot to wipe is at the entrance to the hallway. It's within range of Radiant Sacrament but out of aggro range. Tractor is possible here. You can do Darkness skillchains against Alexander.
Lothiriel > So did we move up start time or not? If we only have 3:30-4:30 sunday, I don't think it's even worth gearing up. (08/11/28 18:12)
Phht > I dunno. Was your static okay with scooting their time around for an earlier start? (08/11/28 21:25)
Lothiriel > Not entirely sure... I think I only heard back from Siv and Hakhi. (08/11/29 12:14)
Phht > I'll tentatively say that Sunday will be a dry run. Let's you see how it goes and where we might need changes.. I'll try to be on by 1p so if static decides to scoot around and let us start early I'll be on. (08/11/29 14:12)
Treasa > Sorry for my late chime in, holidays and all. D&D got bumped again so I'll have some extra time until an out of town friend calls. (08/11/30 01:43)
Lothiriel > Next week, let's try to start at 2 EST again, I will get static to start early. Things to try: solid dedicated stun order, spread farther apart on BLU fight, and if we lose anyone on the first two BLU fights, we should just cut our losses, sleep and firefly and start over. (08/11/30 20:32)
Thistle > Testing... (08/11/30 23:53)
Thistle > CYT wouldn't let me post, called me a spammer. Trying this again. While people say if you die to the BLU you should start over, that's not always true. On my winning run we had our PLD and a DD die to him and we waited for them to unweaken and we still won. (08/11/30 23:54)
Phht > It might've been due to a certain percentage of your comment being capitalized. As for tau44, I'm a firm believer in not exiting before the main fight (unless everything went to pot on the blu like happened on our second try). (08/12/01 02:00)
Nimbex > Thistle: My apologies. My algorithms are pretty primitive. If you feel sufficiently inclined, drop me an email with the message you tried to post, and I'll see if there's something obvious I didn't plan for. (08/12/01 14:14)
Nimbex > I suppose a simple workaround is to whitelist by poster name, and keep existing rules in place, since no spammers have impersonated actual users as yet. (08/12/01 14:19)
Zoofster > BONER (08/12/01 16:43)
Treasa > 2pm is great. I'll be sure to be online early this time. (08/12/02 22:53)
Thistle > No worries, Nim. It was basically the same thing as I posted the second time, minus "CYT wouldn't let me post, called me a spammer. ". I don't have the exact wording anymore, sorry! (08/12/03 12:42)

Okay,I found out when I would be heading down to Florida to help finish moving the house. It's this Friday or Saturday.

Now, the house sounds mostly emptied - kitchen and closets mainly, and maybe some/all of the attic - but there's a shop area out back for woodworking that appears to still need packing. So while taking care of the house would only take 1 or 2 days, I dunno how long it would take for the other part. Also, my uncle can't make the trip in one day unless we stop a whole lot so it'll likely be a 2 day trip either way.

Thus it appears that my trip down will likely be until the weekend of Nov 15-16 or little into that week.

Things affected:
-Nov 8 CoP 4-2 run with FI
-Nov 9 TAU 42 run
-Nov 11 Assault static
-Nov 12 Wednesday events with FI
-Nov 13 SAM static
-Nov 16 TAU run?
-Nov 18 Assault Static?

----

Just remembered:
I should note that my uncle said that we'll be able to leech (with permission granted already) from his neighbor's wireless, so it's possible that I could still make some of those events. Act as if I might not make it and let it be a pleasant surprise if I do. >.>

Okay, we did darn well for our first tries there. We made the best of Naja picking bad targets in the first room, and nearly managed it in the second room.

Time: Sunday, Nov 9, 3:30p eastern (12:30p pacific) TENTATIVE
Location: Whitegate (note: tau42/44 take place at the nyzul staging point, so you can grab Nyzul Investigation orders for a free trip to the point instead of using a runic pass. Just remember to cancel the orders afterwards.)

Party:
Zoofster - rdm/whm
Treasa - pld/war
Lothiriel - drk/nin
Drexel - blm/rdm?
Phht - mnk/nin
Miyasha? - whm/blm

Possibles:
Nimbex? - whm
Sivara?

Opponents:
First Room - Blue Mage + gears.
Second Room - Blue Mage + triple gears.
Third Room - Soulflayer

---

Strategy:

First room - Sleep the blu. Treasa/Phht/Loth pull the four gears away and solo them. Once gears are done, stomp the blu to 40-50% health. Rest up after blu flees.

Second room - These triple gears hit harder it seemed than the previous room's single gears. As with first room, stomp the blu after gears are dead and rest up again after blu flees around 25% health.

Third room - Soulflayer only. It's at 100% health here, high physical defense, and a rampart-like magic shield that make it highly resistant to elemental magic. Sleepga resets hate on all slept. Otherwise, treat as normal Soulflayer for killing purposes. When it runs out of health, we win.

Items:
RR item(s)
Pots/Hi-pots
Ethers/hi-ethers (for those needing mp)
Food
Nintools (for those on nin or /nin)

--

Concerns:
-Miyasha might not be back from getting-a-new-job financial woes, so we might need to sub in someone for that slot.

-Do we really need a blm for mainly sleeping the blu? I would think maybe nin/rdm or rdm/nin instead or something DDish?

-Did drk really work there? I think I intended for it to do Stun work on the blu, but things seemed to work well enough without it.

-Is there a better day/time that works for everyone where we'll have more free time without worrying about someone needing to leave early every other week?
--Phht - SuMWFSa
--Loth - SuMWTh
--Zoof - SuMF

-If we do clear TAU42 next run, TAU44 attempts will be in the air depending on when Miyasha is able to return.
Zoofster > RDM would be better at sleeping and could kite, but doesn't carry the same DPS that a BLM does. I think that's why you want a BLM. /DRK can be used to stun the BLU, but the BLU didn't seem like it was a real problem unless Naja decided to beat her down. (08/10/28 10:05)
Lothiriel > RDM/NIN would be better when things go horribly wrong, which I think they tend to do. But remember, the triple gears in the second room *can* be sleepga-ed easier than the ones in the first room, I just don't think we tried it. DRK seemed to work reasonably well in that I could solo a gear. The triple gear was a bit harder but I still managed. My other options are RNG, which *might* be able to solo one, but it would be a little trickier, or NIN which could probably solo 2 at once (especially if I went /DNC) but would take a long time to kill one. As far as times, I'm usually free mon, wed & thurs nights during the week in addition to the normal sunday. (08/10/28 11:49)
Zoofster > If Drexel can pull up a melee class, we can go with a healer, me on RDM/BLM, Treasa, and three NIN/x or x/NIN. The gears, even the triples, can be soloed, and I should be able to keep the BLU slept. The key is to make sure the gears are closer to Naja than the BLU. (08/10/28 11:58)
Phht > Okay, I think we'll leave Loth on drk then. I wasn't really paying attention to anything except my mobs, so wasn't sure overall for the most part. || I think we could keep Drex on blm, and have him be the second one into the room after Treasa so he can drop a sleep(ga) on the blu (and triple gears) quicker. Then one of us, probably Treasa since she'd have two-ish?, should pull their gear(s) past Naja so Naja aggros the mobs and follows them off away from the blu. Hopefully before she decides to play whack-a-blu. Would that work better on avoiding the premature blu stomping problem? (08/10/28 13:23)
Lothiriel > Does Naja attack whoever is closest to her? I just thought she went for one at random. (08/10/28 14:13)
Phht > I'm not sure. Wiki says it's random, but I don't think it'd hurt to try to act as if she goes for closest line of sight. >.> (08/10/28 14:33)
Zoofster > Discussion on wiki says it's closest, and I'm inclined to agree. That's what happened the first fights. I don't like the idea of Treasa trying to tank two of them while we deal with the other two gears: While she's an awesome PLD, mantaining hate on two gears is really damn hard and will be taxing for the healer to heal up. Everyone else has /NIN and thus will require far less attention, but that's still three people she has to keep an eye on. As RDM/BLM, I can easily sleep stuff (in fact, probably land it better) than Drex. I don't want to count on sleeping gears if they're capable of resisting ES. I'm only sitting at around 305 enfeebling, not 322. (08/10/28 16:54)
Zoofster > Espically the triple gears that can hit harder and will likely combo their TP moves together on Treasa, making keeping her up near-impossable. (08/10/28 16:56)
Phht > She ended up tanking two single gears in that first room. Loth had one, I had one, and Treasa had two. When I finished mine, I helped Treasa out as Naja went for the blu. I think she ended up with two triple gears in the second room as well. She also stayed up longer than me that room. >.> (08/10/28 18:20)
Morlock > Phht, this is where I point out that I had suggested doing Soboro run at about that same time this coming Sunday 9 Nov. This, of course, becomes a mute point if Klaital and Demandred do not get their accounts sorted out before CoP Static tomorrow - but still, since the interested parties are largely the same, it would make sense to coordinate such that we are not {confused} come sunday. (08/11/03 09:14)
Lothiriel > We can perhaps start our sunday exp static an hour earlier, thus freeing people up an hour earlier. Because of the time zone change, Hakhi and I are only 2 hours behind EST now (and 1 hour behind Sivara + Chicago people). (08/11/03 11:02)
Drexel > I can come as NIN or I can do RDM/NIN. Whatever works best. I agree that coming as BLM again seems a bit silly since my main focus was keeping BLU slept. Once it woke up, my Sleep was resisted the second time anyway. Not sure if it would still be resisted as RDM, but i (08/11/09 13:43)
Drexel > ...but I think having a higher Enfeeb would be better for landing a second Sleep. Of course, this is a moot point if Naja is just gonna bitch slap him. Also, I could kite him if need be as RDM as well, which I cant really do on BLM. And it seems from what i've read that BLM wont be of much use in last form anyway. And I could always come as NIN to help fight gears as well. I could solo a gear (or at least keep it busy until help arrived, since i'm sure Phht or Lothi would probably kill theirs alot quicker). Well, today's TAU35 run was amazing after last week's sad ending. First run, we get him down to ~20% before wiping. Second run, we get it down to 25% before wiping. By this point, everyone but Zoof has used their 2hr. So we decide to give it one more try, with Loth switching to drk/nin instead of /sam. Unfortunately, Loth ended up going 3/3 on getting killed in the runs but we won the fight with the cheating punk at ~12%.

Now, next week 1-2 people won't be able to make the run so we're taking a week off. This is also good because TAU42 is a tough cookie and could use some extra time to plan. Also, once Zoof starts tau42 he can't do rank-ups until he beats it. Luckily, he ought to rank-up this week, so we ought to have two weeks of run attempts available before ranking up becomes an issue for him.

Oh, and TAU mission spoilers below this point. Beware, etc etc.

TAU42 or, as I like to think of it, The Beginning of the End
http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Aht_Urhgan_Mission_42:_Path_of_Darkness

Time: Sunday, Oct 26, 3:30p eastern (12:30p pacific) - We want to start at 3:30 on the dot, because Treasa has D&D happenings that Sunday.
Location: Whitegate (note: tau42 and tau44 take place at the nyzul staging point, so you can grab Nyzul Investigation orders for a free trip to the point instead of using a runic pass. Just remember to cancel the orders afterwards.)

Party:
Zoofster - rdm/blm
Treasa - pld/war
Lothiriel - drk/nin
Drexel - nin/war
Phht - mnk/nin
Miyasha - whm/blm

Possibles:
Nimbex? - whm
Sivara?

Opponents:
First Room - Blue Mage + gears.
Second Room - Blue Mage + gears.
Third Room - Blue-- Gotcha! Soulflayer only!

Allies:
Weighing in with a honking huge spiked mace, NAAAAAAAAJJJJJAAAAAAAAA Salaheem!

And yes, if she dies we fail.

General Strategy:
Kill gears, then beat up Mage. Generally, sleep the mage and help Naja kill targets. And hope she doesn't pick the Mage until last.

Then recover some, go to next room, and repeat. Recover after that, then dogpile the soulflayer for the win.

More Specific Strategy:
"Don't die"? >.>

Okay, looking at the strategies on wiki leads me to think we should aim for strategy 2 listed there.

Room 1, Treasa aggro kites the gears as pld/war while Naja (and the party) beat up the blue mage. Loth keeps the blu stunned as possible to keep the blue magic damage down, Drexel tanks on nin. Once the blu is gone, we peel off Gears from Treasa and kill.

Repeat room 2, then dogpile soulflayer room 3.

Alternately, Loth goes nin/war to tank and Drex handles stunning as blm? Would that work better?

Items:
RR item(s)
Pots/Hi-pots
Ethers/hi-ethers (for those needing mp)
Food
Nintools (for those on nin or /nin)

Notes:
When Miyasha and I did this fight, we wiped 2-3 times for various reasons. Then we said "fuck it" and had Merton snag all the gears and kite them around the room while we pulled one off at a time to kill before piling the mage. Second room, Naja decided to smack the mage first so Mert kited the gears around the room until the mage ran off, then we continued as planned killing the gears.

This fight is a pain in the ass to do, but no really cheap tricks like the clones or Mijin like Gessho in TAU35. Upside, like with TAU35 we lose no exp if we die.
Miyasha > Well, the first 3 times we had the plan of sending the RDM in first to sleep all the gears, which was met with varying degrees of success (until the remaining ones woke up and proceded to pound us all into oblivion). Needless to say, we never made past the first room on those attempts. (08/10/13 05:10)
Miyasha > Side note: for this we had the same setup as in the previous fight (WHMx2, COR, THF, RDM, MNK), with Dani and I trading off healing duties. Question is, would you want me to go as THF for this and try to pull a Merton (helping Zoof break his WS latend should help me add a bit more eva skill), or are we going to attemt an alternate strategy? (08/10/13 05:14)
Zoofster > It is entirely possible I'll have WHM 75 by the time we do this, so WHM is another possible main for me. Although RDM will likely be more desirable. One of the reasons that RDM sleep is unreliable is likely due to the double-light weather. Similarly, Repose, Lullaby, and Light Shot should all be effective sleeping solutions thanks to the double-light bonus. (08/10/13 09:10)
Zoofster > I could try the kiting thing, do the gears do a lot of damage? Sentinel is on a 3 minute cooldown for 30 seconds, so even if they hit hard I can give 30 seconds of kiting fun presuming time isn't a real issue. (08/10/13 14:00)
Miyasha > I don't remember how hard they were hitting Mert (I know I tried to keepa Regen III on him when possible), but the fun part is that there's 4 regular then 4 triple gears to kite around (if Naja makes the bad move and goes after the mage first, i think whatever mob is closest tends to be a factor). (08/10/13 17:53)
Merton > You don't want the gears hitting you. Not pleasant. I used a combination of Flee and Powder Boots, and of course having Utsusemi helped. Fun fight. (08/10/14 02:24)
Zoofster > I don't know if I'll be able to effectively kite them for more than 50ish seconds, then. Unless I just tag agro and kite while someone heals. (08/10/14 12:34)
Treasa > blargh... my D&D schedule got all messed up. I know have a session on the 26th and thus need to leave my place at 4:30. ;-; (08/10/19 11:57)

Okay, we had some bad luck on Sunday. First try, we actually got it to ~35% health when it Mijin'd and wiped everyone but me. >.>

Second try he had a bad time dealing with clones and ended up wiping at ~52%.

Next time will be Sunday, Oct 12 at 3:30p eastern. Meet in Talacca Cove so we can promptly start on time to try to get the clear in before Treasa heads off at 4:30 for gaming.

Party:
Zoofster - rdm/whm
Treasa - pld
Lothiriel - drk
Drexel - blm/whm
Phht - mnk/nin
Miyasha - whm/blm

Possibles:
Sivara?
Barahir?

--

Zoof needs to keep Stoneskin/Phalanx/etc up and be on the ball with clone grabbing so we don't get a repeat of that second try. Um, and hopefully we don't have a problem with the kiter being mid-spell when the clones appear.

Treasa and Loth (if nin) will act as tanks (preferably Treasa as dual wield attacks eat through utsu quickly). I'll try not to act as tank because I'm an mp sink if I can't keep shadows up. >.>

Things to try to Stun if possible: Shibaraku (Sweep - AoE, 500-1500dmg + Stun + Knockback, possibly 10' radial), Happobarai (AoE + Stun, 10' radial).
Zoofster > Mijin is not stunnable, it's an instant-use move much like Benediction, Invincible, or any other 2hr other than Astral Flow. Activation is instant. (08/10/08 19:19)
Hakhi > If you need me I can try to come too (08/10/09 12:13)
Miyasha > i am available as well, whm/blm and thf/nin (08/10/10 00:31)
Phht > I think I shall tentatively place Miya in the last slot as thf/nin unless it's felt that having a whm would be better? (08/10/10 01:32)
Zoofster > If you want me to kite, I really won't be able to keep people healed. So unless you want Drexel to heal on BLM/WHM, you probably want Miyasha as WHM. It'd be better hate control and more effecient cure-bombing too. (08/10/10 09:45)
Phht > yeah, that's why I wasn't definite on that. My thoughts were "Do I want more DD so he'll dying a little quicker, or do I want more curing so we'll not die longer," and your summation of the curing power available makes "not dying longer" a better idea. ^^ (08/10/11 01:40)
Lothiriel > I think you're right about blink-tanking this guy being difficult, so I guess I will come as DRK. RNG would have the advantage of being out of AOE range, but DRK can stun so probably better. (08/10/11 12:46)
Zoofster > If you can, subbing NIN on melees is a good idea: Both his AEs can be blinked away (the non-explody-kind). (08/10/12 08:49)

Okay, with two extra people we kicked serious butt on the tau29 fight. We also breezed through tau31.

So now we face off against <spoiler>, as was meant to be!

My thought is next Sunday, Oct 5 at 4:30p eastern. Meet in Talacca Cove (unless you were doing TAU34 day of the run).

Party:
Zoofster - rdm/blm
Kireila - rdm/whm
Treasa - pld/war
Lothiriel - blm/whm
Phht - mnk/nin
Nimbex - nin/war

Possibles:
Miyasha? - whm/blm, thf/nin
Sivara?
Barahir? (needs clear, but am uncertain as to availability)
Drexel? (needs clear, but am uncertain as to availability)

--

Strategy!

Treasa tanks the punk. Kireila main heals-ish. Loth is nuker. Zoof conserves mp for when clones spawn, then grabs all their attention and runs like hell kiting them until he dies, they despawn, or the battle ends. ;) Alternately, Zoof and Loth could switch roles. Nim acts as back-up tank and additional DD. I just punch stuff.

Now, his TP moves are standard yag TP moves that were renamed. He's a nin mob, so expect ninjutsu, ranged attacks, and Mijin. He's susceptible to para, slow, and blind. He builds resistance to bind and gravity, and is immune to Sleep (even with ES or lullaby). He some times teleports around, likely due to change in hate.

The clones can do everything the NM does, and they apparently do their TP/Mijin/ninjutsu at the same time as the NM. They despawn between 10 and 35 seconds after appearing and do no despawn at the same time, so check for full despawn before rejoining the main fight.

As you might have noticed, there's five people needing tau35 clear. Which also means five needing tau42 clear. Unfortunately, that requires someone to get left behind temporarily at 44 because we'd have 7 needing that mission clear. >.>
Nimbex > I should be free that day/time if my help is needed. If there are clones to be kited, I might be able to come with a weird job combination (WHM/THF or NIN/WHM come to mind) so that I have AOE and fast movement available. It's the clones which really make the fight hard, because they do damage faster than one can curebomb. Anyway, I'll plan to keep that time open. (08/09/29 12:29)
Lothiriel > Maybe Nim should come NIN for DD and back-up tank-age? Seems like we're kind of mage-heavy. (08/10/03 15:21)
Phht > That could work. Okay! (08/10/04 09:21)

SPOILERS of fights below

We had a wonderful TAU15 clear.

Next up is TAU22! TAU 18-19 are nice in-town CSes. TAU20 involves going into Aydeewa for a CS, then TAU21 is a nice CS in town. Then off to do a fight in an Execution Chamber.

Khimaira vs Lady S^h^h^h^Karababa. Yes, yes. Karababa.

Capped at 75, so buffs will be wiped. Karababa can do the whole fight once the beast is disturbed, as long as she doesn't drop to 50% health. In fact, everyone can die and still win the fight if Karababa kills it before needing to warp out. But we won't test that part!

Start: 11p east / 10p central / 8p pacific

Phht - mnk/nin
Zoofster - rdm/whm?
Kireila - rdm/whm?
Nimbex - whm/blm (in salvage right up to about the start time - will need to drop a /t to him to remind him)

CLEARED

--

Friday, Sept 26 will be TAU29/31 fights because there's no JP midnight wait between them.

TAU29 is a lovely fight against a mamool knight. Several annoying moves, but shouldn't be too much to deal with if we're careful.

After that comes TAU31 - a nice, light hearted lamiae massacre. Just kill them until the thing gives you mission clear. Be careful of the 80hp/tick cone AoE poison move and the poison-on-hit from them.

Start: 10:30p east / 9:30p central / 7:30p pacific

Phht - mnk/nin
Zoofster - rdm/drk
Kireila - rdm/sch
Nimbex - nin (in salvage right up to about the start time - will need to drop a /t to him to remind him)
Miyasha - thf/nin

Now, TAU35, TAU42, and TAU44 dates are kinda up in the air at the moment depending on Treasa's schedule. Treasa, being a lovely pld75 sitting at TAU35, will be dropping a comment in my journal some time this week hopefully on available times. I'll figure out times to do the last three missions after that. Possibly do TAU35 the 28th at 2-4p est so we'll be done before the swift belt run?

And as it stands, we pretty much have our TAU44 group. Treasa, Miyasha, Zoofster, Kireila, me, and someone else. :D

Tentative TAU44 grouping:
Treasa - pld/war
Miyasha - whm/blm
Zoofster - rdm/drk
Kireila - rdm/drk
Phht - mnk/war (/sam, if the run is pushed out far enough?)
??? - ???/???

Possible last slot people:
Sivara - war/sam <= most likely choice
Nimbex - whm or nin or something

And just a note - once this is all done and we have TAU complete... I'm not going to plan anything for at least a month or six. >.>
Sivara > Actually, I can't make it tonight, unless you want to move this to 10PM central. ^^; (08/09/22 08:33)
Nimbex > I expect to be free at 9p Central, assuming that all goes according to plan (which it will, because I hold a Ph.D in pointiness). But if it doesn't, and Salvage is delayed, 10p Central is probably a safer bet for me. So, I dunno, my opinion is plan for 9p, and go when you have enough help lined up, whether that be me, Sivara, or someone else available. Not that you probably *want* my NIN for this one, but if you did need me to swap jobs, the extra time would be helpful for that. (08/09/22 11:40)
Phht > Hm. Okay, we'll push it back tonight to 10p central. (08/09/22 12:14)
Phht > grats on a painless for everyone not me clear of TAU22. On to TAU29! (08/09/22 23:22)
----
Nimbex > I'd expect PLD71 can tank TAU29 just fine. You guys just decide whether you'd prefer me to come NIN Friday and tank, or come WHM Friday and keep Zoof standing. Let me know by the time I finish Salvage, and I'll gear up and be ready in Whitegate. (08/09/23 17:07)
Sivara > I have static on Friday night, so I won't be able to make 29/31. (08/09/23 18:20)
Zoofster > Wow, you want me to PLD for TAU missioning? Sure, I can do that. :D (08/09/25 10:34)
Nimbex > Just saying it's an option. I'll let Phht make the call; he's ostensibly in charge. Or if someone else has strong opinions. I'll have WHM/BLM on me, and be able to swap to NIN/WAR or NIN/DRK in 5 minutes after Salvage ends. (08/09/25 13:42)

Some fight SPOILERS below for those that aren't near the end/done with TAU.

Okay, our TAU44 run is short a pld, a magic nuker, and a rdm. Zoof's volunteered to fill the rdm slot, but is on TAU15. >:)

SO!

Sunday, Sept 21 - TAU15 fight (Black Coffin) CLEARED
Monday, Sept 22 - TAU22 fight (Khimaera) CLEARED
Friday, Sept 26 - TAU29 and TAU31 fights (Lancelord fight and Lamiae fight)
Monday, Sept 29? - TAU35 fight (Yagudo ninja fight)
TBD - TAU42 fight (BLU Stomping 101 with Naja)
TBD - TAU44 fight (The ZOMGWTFBBQ stupid hard fight)

Now, we need a few good beings to help push Zoof up to TAU44. If you happen to be a magic nuker-type or pld on some mission pre-44, then I'd also appreciate it if you helped clear TAU44 as well. If you're not one of those and are pre-44, then once we get clear on it I'd be willing to assist others get through it as well. :)

Phht - mnk/nin
Zoof - rdm/magey
Sivara - bst or war (TAU15, 22, 29, 31 for certain)
Kireila - rdm/something (TAU15, 22, 29, 31, 35 most probably)
xxxx - ???
xxxx - ???

Meet: Whitegate at 10p est / 7p pst / 1a gmt(?)
Sivara > Let's see...I can make 15, 22, and 26. 3 and 4 are iffy but if I'm set up at the other house I can help. I can bring BST or WAR; WAR is for big damage and semi-tanking, BST is for kiting, crowd control, and light backup healing. (08/09/19 18:34)
Phht > Yeah, I just noticed that TAU35 would interfere with Swift Belt runs. I'll shift that to Mon, Sept 29 (08/09/21 12:31)
Phht > Thanks to Mert and Nim filling in the last two slots and a lovely TAU15 clear. TAU18 is JP midnight. Get up to TAU22 before next start. <3 (08/09/21 21:39)

TAU 44 run planning(open)08/09/21 22:11(99)
Okay, I was chatting with Nimbex after noticing that 3/5 of old TAU static (not counting Ashn, who has vanished from ffxi for some time) has completed TAU.

And I want this mission gone. SO!

Location: Nyzul Isle Staging Point
Time: TBD at TBD

Party:
Phht - mnk/war
Miyasha - whm/?
Zoofster - rdm/drk (currently TAU18)
Treasa - pld/war
Kireila - rdm/drk
Sivara, Nimbex, someone - ?/?

Items:
RR items
a lot of medicine for hp/mp recovery by melee/mage (hi-pots, etc for melee; yag drinks, etc for mages)
Food
other items necessary for job/sub

Strategy: Talking with thistle via LJ, he used a balanced party (strategy 3 from http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Aht_Urhgan_Mission_44:_Nashmeira%27s_Plea/Strategy ) when he finally beat the mission. So I think I shall give that a try, then tweak if necessary if things don't work out. So a pld for main tank, rdm or brd for debuff/refresh, and a nuker would be good for the remaining three openings.

Suggestions for party set-up, volunteers (with times available), etc would be appreciated.
Sivara > I can assist. WAR, available anytime except Tues/Wed/Thurs/Fri nights and Sun 10ish-2PMish. (08/09/13 20:57)
Miyasha > seeing as how my evasion is still decently undercapped (and only thf74 atm), i'll prolly see about filling in a healer slot. hehe, another reason to get this mission done and gone: cannot get captain rank in our assault semi-static w/o being done w/ the TAU mission line. (08/09/14 13:39)
Phht > Okay, I'm thinking of going on Saturday. More time for planning than a Wednesday run. When would be a good start time then? (08/09/14 14:24)
Miyasha > i'm currently good for all day saturday (08/09/14 21:09)
Zoofster > I'd help if I was, you know... able to. But I doubt my ability to go from mission 15 to 44 in under a week! (08/09/15 11:37)
Phht > I dunno. Your biggest problem would be the JP midnight waits between some of the missions. If you worked mainly on clearing TAU this week, you should be able to get to 44 by Saturday. ^_~ (08/09/15 13:40)
Sivara > I prefer Saturday evening. I will be attending a neighborhood festival during the day. Also, when I cleared this mission, I was WAR/SAM with a Great Axe, so I think I will bring that again. (08/09/15 20:01)
Phht > Would 9p est/6p pst be a good start time for you? (08/09/16 18:31)
Sivara > Works for me. (08/09/16 20:57)
Phht > Siv: I'm going to push tau44 back two Saturdays to Oct 4. Same time as decided. I'll use the extra time to get Zoof 15->44 to take the refresh slot, and get our pld and nuker-type guy. (08/09/18 23:39)
Sivara > I may not be available on Oct. 4. I'll be moving, but I may have FFXI set up. I'll keep you posted, and if I can't make it, feel free to replace me. In the meantime, I can probably help Zoof with 15-44! (08/09/19 09:33)
Sivara > That is, help you help Zoof. (08/09/19 09:34)
Zoofster > Awww, thanks guys. ^^ (08/09/19 13:31)
