How Jenica continues to kill me(open)09/10/16 14:57(1416)
In a recent post I related a story about how Anders was out to get me even though Jenica was dumping absurd amounts of Thunder III/IVs into it and spamming Rapture + Cure IV like it was the only spell on his White list. I've since discovered that Jenica's magical trait of pinning me with all of his hate isn't limited to just Anders...

On Tuesday we went to Temple of Ugg to farm him a SMN test so that he could do "The Forbidden Path" for the Windy WotG stuff. No probs, we were mowing Tonberries like no one's business, but then we ran out of Tonberries :( *I* decided it'd be a good time for a snack. Jeni decided it'd be a good time to taunt an Iron Maiden and kite it around a room while killing it. Somehow Jeni kept losing hate on it and when that happened it'd come over and start whacking me... I WAS AFK AND NOT RESTING. I was standing in a corner making a sandwich and Jeni's mob wanted me dead D: (Or else it wanted my sandwich.) I >.>;ed at Jeni and he killed it.

Okay, that was a fluke, right? Wrong. On Wednesday we went out to Glacier to do the WotG mission 18/19. Folks were working on 18 so some of us went to play in Campaign. When it looked like people were nearly ready I tagged out and went to stand in a corner. I didn't have hate on anything since I tagged out right after I died (which should've cleared hate. I'd only touched Gnats anyways..).

So Jeni's tagged in and kiting this Shade around the tower. Around and around and he finally gets some lead on it, so he tags out and then warps to clear hate. The Shade turns around and casts Aeroga III on me. I o.O; and ran away so it wouldn't hit any of the people standing next to me. I died. Then the Shade walked away like all was right in the world.

The entire alliance just stared and Nif was like "O.o How did you manage to die while just standing there?" Jeni felt bad, but it wasn't his fault. This actually isn't the first time I've been killed by a random Campaign mob while untagged that I didn't have hate on (or shouldn't have had any hate on...) I've GM called the bug in like 3 times now and they keep ignoring me since I keep racking up deaths to it. At least I got an R3 and I have my Moghancement: Experience going now? :|

Seriously, Jeni, I <3 you, but you're a dangerous friend to hang around, y'know that? >.>;
Demandred > Campaign just seems to be buggy sometimes, but the Iron Maiden aggro concerns me. That really shouldn't have happened, unless Iron Maidens do some kind of shared hate thing that I am not aware of. (09/10/15 19:19)
Beanie > Something was definitely up with it just because of how easily and frequently it was deaggroing even with Jeni dumping nukes into it. He hadn't just Gravitied it and ran it around, he was actively killing it and then it'd forget he exists. I've seen Wamouracampa up in Mount Z do that sort've behavior, but I thought it was intentional in those... (09/10/15 21:08)
Pisces > Maybe it's a bug that was introduced during SE's ninja 'fixes'? Did they tamper with mobs' hate algorithm lately? (09/10/16 12:02)
Beanie > One part of me wants to be jaded and say they haven't done jack shit lately, but I'm pretty sure they have 'cause of other weird quirks that have cropped up. With regards to the Wamouracampa, though, those have always had the possiblity of deaggroing easily even when just being ran around at normal speeds and being heavily nuked. I've seen that happen way too many times while leeching XP from BLMs. (09/10/16 14:54)
Elizara > I had that problem on blm soloing goldfish. I'd take too long or something and it'd "forget I was there" and deagg on me. I'd just shrug and get another fish but..think that is a symptom of what yer talking about? (09/10/16 17:47)
Renard > I've done Horns of War, and thought I did a piss-poor job at kiting, because I could never hold hate, for more than a few secs, while kiting... it was explained to me, that while Gravity'd, gaining too much distance to the target, will cause hate to be completely negitated. Even if the rest of the party wiped, it wouldn't run back to find me, hate will be complietely wiped clean, if running from a weighed down mob or mob that is generally slower than yourself. ~ What happened in campaign, was that, despite tagging out, you will still have a certain degree of hate on mobs, from participating in the battle, which would have to be zoned, to be cleared. This hate can be spread to party-members, like hate normally will, through /sit/heal'ing or supportive magic/abilities used on you. This is not new. Back when we did Crawlers Nest a lot, I'd raise Naya (me, not having tags and freshly zoned in, while Naya having tags up, while KO'd) my Raise on a Campaign participant would put me on the hate-list, as 2 Quadav's would attack Naya, stuck in the raise-animation and then link to me, despite having great distance. It's... not "buggy", as it's pretty logic, when it comes down to it... just piss-poorly programmed, from such a high-end game developers. o.oa (09/10/16 19:17)
Beanie > Well, actually, that's why I'm saying some of it *iis* buggy since the first qualifier you mentioned was Gravity and gaining too much distance. Since I knew about those two qualifiers and have abused them liberally in the past, but some mobs will flat out simply *forget you* regardless of either of those things. I mean you'll be standing right next to it blowing the crap out of it with a big spell and then it'll go yellow and walk away. Goldfish are another example of a mob that does that, but I think we can all agree that those were very intentionally meant to do it (at least before you did any actual damage to them). Either way you're right though, there's a lot of piss poor code in the game :x And I still resent dying to mobs I haven't touched... (09/10/17 06:56)
Elizara > Beanie; I had it happen 3-4 times WHEN I WAS NUKING IT. Usually after a grav and run away; it'd turn white, I'd try to nuke, and then..it'd just go away >< I called that in shell "the fish that got away"; more annoying than anything but...It may be the same thing. (09/10/17 08:55)
Zaalus > I think its something more simple. Nif just paid all the monsters in the game to mpk the bean because he cant cast Holy on her.... (09/10/18 07:06)
Beanie > The fish are a bit of an extreme exception since they're designed to deaggro easily (and by easily I mean they have other places to be than standing there letting you kill them). Most of my gripes have to go with normal mobs that don't have such loose hate rules. Gravity should let you get away from almost anything. || Zaalus, Nif wouldn't do that to me... I don't think... But he did get near a 1000dmg Holy today, so he's practicing... (09/10/19 00:30)
Pisces > I've suspected this for a while (since WotG, actually), that the original main "programmers" for FFXI are no longer working on FFXI. I think they are working on other games (like FFXIV). The programmers that are working on FFXI are secondary ones... Ones that are a little newer, and probably don't know all the quirks in the code. Hence why there are a lot of bugs in the game now. :X I think the main programmers are there just for consulting/asking questions if the secondary programmers can't figure out what went wrong. Just my opinion though. (09/10/19 10:52)
Beanie > Oh, it's known that they've changed design teams quite a few times by now. The Chrono Trigger team used to be one of the core teams and last I heard they were moved off onto other projects (probably FFXIV as you mentioned). That's also why there hasn't been a new CT game since FFXI... (09/10/19 11:01)
Cydori > For a long time I wrongfully blamed Chrono Cross for killing the franchise. (I did not like CC. At all.) Then I found out that they went on to do FFXI, so all was forgiven. ;p (09/10/19 18:53)
Beanie > I'd like to blame Chrono Cross for killing the franchise regardless. Can't Stand That Game (had an ex-BF who played it to death.) But I'm not one to offer a good opinion. My favorite game in the series was Radical Dreamers... (09/10/20 00:31)
Pisces > >_>;;; *has only played Chrono Trigger* It's probably my favorite RPG. Well, 'classic' one anyway. Never got bored with Chrono Trigger. Unlike other RPGs... (09/10/20 12:30)
