| Howitzer went to Bastok on Tuesday, which made me happy :3 I missed the first hour or so of the run 'cause I was still at work, but I've had an itch to hit up cities and Bastok is as good of place to go as any. B'sides that, we had a fantastic run. We cleared every mom out of the zone except for the 4 Shield Effigies, got like 16 AF2s, and over 700 Bynes. What's not to love about that? I can't say much about the AF drops since I was out of zone playing glassmule for a while and, uh, forgot otherwise >.>a; I'm pretty sure Daj got BLU pants to complete her set. Demandred got MNK footies. And I got BLU pants myself o.ob Thank you guys <3
Nif didn't log in Wednesday because he needed to study for a couple upcoming tests (he went to Dynamis instead on Tuesday >.> <3 ) So I was bored and lonely and decided to stop dragging my feet on the WotG stuff instead. I ran around Sandy S and collected signatures, then went to Davoi and got myself a Gold Orcmask. I was looking up the rest of WotG stuff after that and it didn't look too bad at all >.>; I decided it didn't look that bad at all. I'd poke Nif soon to see if he wanted to finish it up.
On Thursday I logged in and found that Nif was collecting signatures x3; I dunno how he read my mind without me saying a word to him about it, but he was doing it :o He didn't go for the full amount, just up to the Angelskin Orb. (We both completed our bags a while ago, so this quest was really a matter of how much effort did we want to put into recovering the gil we spent?) I poked Yosa to see if he wanted to come with Nif and me to do the assault-like quest and he said sure, then we headed out.
The assault-like quest wasn't bad at all. I can totally see how wiki's reporting how everyone and their dog can solo it. With 3 people we quickly learned how to do it speedily (leave 1 person behind at the first switch) and without having to kill for more bombs (person left behind blows the first 2 walls so there's enough bombs between everyone). Not that killing the Goblins or Bombs was any sort of hardship, but we ended up doing this assault 3 times by the end of Friday, so fast completion was welcome :3b
While I was waiting around by the Pawprints for the assault I discovered that SE are sneaky, evil bastards. Please note the picture and the location of the Dark Elemental in it. I watched it spawn on top of the Pawprints, then go up the wall to that cave, then go down the cave and sit there. Wouldn't that be a pleasant surprise for someone who was sneaking their way to the Pawprints to get their CS? The elemental checked at VT in case you were curious...
Anyhow, Nif, Yosa, and I were ready to do the next BC (which is immediately after the assault) when Jeni woke up and D:'ed and asked me what I was doing. I told him and he asked if we'd do the assault again so he could come. Oh, sure :o It wasn't hard. Did that and then headed over to the BC.
I'm gonna try to dance around this fight without spoilers. There are two mobs; the boss and a summon which you can't damage. The boss isn't bad except that it can do Level ? Holy (AoE Holy for up to 2000dmg, but it can also outright miss). It does that with increasing frequency as its HP goes down. The summon doesn't do anything except absorb all stats and transfer them to the boss. The stats absorb reduces player stats to 1 and can't be removed (but it will wear off fairly quickly). In the fight you have an NPC helper. So the fight boils down to another "Cure your way to victory" type fight >.>; That was the strategy we were going with at least. Wiki has a few mentions of WHM soloing the fight. I can see it happening, but I also think accomplishing that would be somewhat of a gamble on Level ? Holy killing you or not.
With Jeni, Nif, Yosa, and me things went swimmingly until near the end when the boss got a bit Level ? Holy happy and killed Jeni and Nif, then killed them again after they Reraised. But Yosa and I finished the fight *cough* yay curing. When we popped out of the BC you do not land in a safe spot D: Nif came out and got aggro from a nearby Gawker (Floating Eye). I Reposed it, then did Celerity to Raise III Jeni quickly, and once Jeni was up Nif took us to Holla to escape. Raise I would've worked >.> But WHM instinct. I'm not used to these BCs with no XP loss in them...
On Friday we skipped XP static to finish off some missioning instead. Nif, Yosa, Jeni, and I helped Val and Cyd with the final Kupo BC. That fight goes a lot faster with a BLU there to destroy the minions. We didn't set the BC record, but it was a far more controlled fight with the practice we've had o.ob Congrats you guys!
After that we did the SL fight for Cyd since we were already there. That was, yeah, poor SL :< No respect.
Since we'd finished and it was still fairly early in the evening (at least in my time zone), I suggested that we do the WotG assault and BC for Cyd and Tharp. Cyd still needed and Orcmask and to finish collecting signatures. No probs. Val and she went to Davoi to do that while folks got some other things done. We regrouped shortly there after and buzzed through the assault, then went on to the BC.
My second time in the BC and I had the time to notice a couple things. The first was the boss's starting position vs. what the other side of the field looks like. The field is pretty small and somewhat circular, but directly across from the boss is a nook that you could run into >.>; If the NPC helper was taken to the boss rather than moving the boss towards the NPC (which is what happened on our first fight) that nook should be out of range of Level ? Holy... With that thought tucked into the back of my mind I stayed near the nook to see if I could get it to work. The spot had 2 disadvantages to it. The first was was the the boss has a gaze attack that does silence and amnesia. You can keep your back (or side is what I ended up doing) to the boss and have it miss you, but targetting could get a little difficult. The biggest draw back was that Cyd was behind the boss (which was a great place to be), but put her outside of my casting range >.o The goal was to have the boss > NPC > nook and hang out right on the edge of casting range of the NPC. When I found the spot I wanted for positioning (excluding Cyd) it worked exactly like I suspected. I could cure the NPC and Level ? Holy was missing me. (It also helps that the boss announces Level ? Holy before using it, so I could move fully into the nook to avoid it.) I also found that I could avoid the summon's stats absorb, though that was a bit harder. I pretty much had to start in front of the nook and move to the back of it before the summon finished summoning. If I managed that it would miss me. The problem was that the summon arrives dead center in the field, so the back of the nook is really the only place to avoid it's attack, while the boss can be kept off-center of the middle of the field, which gives more "safe space" from Level ? Holy.
I'm babbling, but that's how Level ? Holy wasn't ripping my face off z.z Anyhow, it was a good thing 'cause this boss was even more spamtastic with the Level ? Holy than the one we did the previous night. It ended up killing Cyd, Nif, and Tharp and hit Yosa to within an inch of his life D: I was running out of MP and the boss still had like 20% health left. I'd forgotten to bring a ProEther with me >.o Nif gave me his and I got my MP back up so I could keep the NPC going. We won >.>/ But dead people yeah D: After the post-BC CS, Cyd just HPed since there was no XP loss. I found a safe ledge to hang out on and wait for them to pop out of the CS and cure them. Fortunately no Gawkers were camping bodies tonight >.>b
WotG missions end on a huge (but predictable) cliffhanger. Damn you, SE -.- It's gonna be 6 months before we see where this goes and I'll probably forget the cliffhanger by then :( As it is, I need a refresher course on where the Nation Quest storylines are >.>a The only one I vaguely remember was Windurst and I just remember :Oing at it at the time, but now I don't remember why I was doing that ._. |
