I had the opportunity to test the Ranger and ranged attack message adjustments in Dynamis today.

For the message adjustments, if you're in the sweet spot it gives you text along the lines of "< name > strikes true, pummeling < mob > with < damage >." If you're on either side of the sweet spot the message tells you that you've struck the mob "squarely". If you're way outside of the spot (either too close or too far) the message looks like the old ranged attack message did. (It says that your ranged attack did < damage > and that's it.) After having 3+ hours to play with it I can proudly say that I don't have any bad habits to unlearn on that front. I don't use 3rd party tools, but without them my feel for range is rock solid. I guess the big thing now is that I'm keeping an eye out for the word "pummeling" rather than keeping an eye on the damage itself, which is what I used to use to gauge distance if it didn't feel right. Ranged attack damage isn't terribly hard to cap and can be very consistent if you have enough Ratt to back it up...

Velocity Shot with a 2 hour duration is nice. During Dynamis I was asked what the recast timer is. It's still 5 minutes, which is fine. I can only think of one situation where that'd hurt me (vs. Dispel happy Hippogryphs, but everyone gets screwed on those in terms of buffs.) On the downside, it *still* has that stupid /say message that tells the world that I'm exchanging melee attack and speed for ranged attack and speed >.>; Seriously, SE, is there *anyone* that needs to know that except the RNG? :x

I didn't do anything with Unlimited Shot, so I can't report on that.

Let me post the text for the Camouflage adjustment:
"Camouflage
Rangers with this ability in effect will incur less enmity for ranged attacks. Furthermore, there will be a chance that the ability remains in effect even after a ranged attack."

This is a lie. A more accurate description of what it does would be "Gives a random chance of reducing enmity when performing an action under Camouflage." I spent 3+ hours testing it with using Camouflage every time the JA was up and the reduced enmity only seemed to happen maybe 40% of the time. The rest of the time the mob would either start moving towards me or come right over and give me a love tap. I tried it with Slug Shot, Barrage, and regular ranged attacks. Even better, I wasn't doing outrageous damage tonight. I'd make it wiggle with a 600dmg Slug Shot, which is dubious considering what a MNK or SAM is doing to it... >.>a I'd also note that not once during the entire run did Camouflage "remain in effect even after a ranged attack." Not once. Camouflage did, however, fall once before I even got to use an attack (and that was with using AF body when activating it so that it didn't fall immediately like usual...)

Yosa suggested that maybe how Camouflage worked is that it gave a random amount of ENM- when it was activated and I just kept getting the short end of the stick. I can see that, though it'd make the JA next to useless :x If I can't count on it then I might as well stick with the normal Plan A and hold TP until the mob is nearly dead and go for kill shots.

I haven't spent my merits yet. I'll need to consider whether it's worth reducing the recast on Camouflage or stick with my original plan of meriting down Unlimited Shot's timer. I'm disappointed with the adjustments (or lack thereof) overall so, meh :/ At least SMN got something worth crowing over from this update, eh?

Speaking of SMN, Drax put Tal in the nuking party and Tal accomplished what CORs and BRDs have been trying to teach BLMs for years: How to gather together for buffs >.> Diabolos was a beacon of Refresh glory that they could only enjoy if they stuck close, haha x3;

For Dynamis itself, it was a fun run :3 It didn't quite rain AF and currency, but we still got a lot ^^ Um, I'm going to forget bits, but Tharp got BLU pants, Drax got DRG (I think it's pants?), Yosa had a PLD crown auto-lot to him x3; I think Aar got something too, but I can't recall >.>a
